New-to-me Work Truck And I Need Some Help With Parts.(pics)

The "classic truck" section says 1999 and older, this truck is a 2000 but its the older body style. Me and my Pop picked this up at a city auction and it was intended to be a work truck for our business untill I cleaned it up a bit and decided to use it. I'm guessing that because it was a city truck they were able to get some sort of fleet sale price from GM and were able to get the older body style in a 2000 model year, kinda like the 2007 classic trucks were still made in the older body style.

The truck runs great, I had to do a massive clean up on it, as it was a sanatation truck. Other than that I have just spray painted a few things black and threw a new set of tires on it. It only has about 34,000 miles, and I have put 500 on it in the past few days. Only problems that need to be fixed are a loud hub bearing, and maybe replace the tie rod ends.

I really need to get a new bench seat for it, this one is worn down and has a huge hole in it. I threw a seat cover on it for now, but on long rides its very uncomfortable. GM does not sell these, and I don't know where to look? I would even be open to upgrading to a bucket seat of split bench. HELP!

If I decide to keep driving this as my personal truck I will probably add a toolbox, some tint, a leveling kit, and upgrade the head-unit and headlight bulbs.

Let me know if there are any other mods for this type of truck.

Here is a quick pic I snapped with my cell.

34,000 miles ain't nothing! Looks like something you could dress up pretty nice. Mainly I would just try and get that orange and pink off. Then put some wheels on it. I don't know what to say on the seat.

junk yard?

+1 Any seat from a '88-'98 truck should work. A buddy of mine had a '00 3500 crew cab that was the old body style and it had the same interior as the '97-'98's.

Looks like a good find. Should last a long time. :P

if you can find a good auto upholstery shop they can recover the seat to look like factory new.. may cost a bit but it will be worth it...

good luck

thats not a bad looking truck... prob has a 350 under the hood. i say either get rid of the rims or paint them black and they will look way better. and with the GMT400's, junkyard are you friends. unlimited parts for 400's in any junk yard from my expirience

Thanks everyone, I'm going to call around to a few junkyards for a seat.

This truck actually has a diesel, and runs great; not sure what size motor it is.

Hey Tom,

I have a seat from a 1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 2 Wheel Drive Regular Cab...it is Grey Leather and in Nice Used Shape...I haven't put it up on my Ebay page yet, and plan to do so shortly...if you are interested let me know and I can snap you a few pics when I clean it up for sale next week....it has 86K miles on it.

.....its the 60/40 Configuration with the Power Lumbar and Fold Down Armrest....its kind of a rare find to see a Reg Cab with Leather however it was an Indy Pace Truck that was turned in as a Cash for Clunker Car last summer....I have been keeping the seat around for a project, but I would be willing to part with it, as I haven't found any good GMT-400's that are worth fixing up anymore...they all seem rusted out around here!

I'm saying junkyard, Uck ack, RECYCLER for seats too. www.car-part.com and sort by distance from you.

It has low miles, but probably idled quite a lot. The engine may have a lot more "ghost" miles on it, so just beware.

My current police cruiser only has 12k miles, but probably 40-50k "worth" of idle time. The hour meter matches my sierra with 44k on it.

EDIT: Missed the diesel part. Who cares then, you got a deal it seems.

What is a GMT-400?

I've heard that mentioned before & I had a crew cab Dually that had GMT-400 on the title. I never knew what that indicated.

Nice truck. There are a few sites with a lot of info on the 6.5 turbo diesels.

If it dies randomly on you, get a remote PMD first if it doesn't have one already.

You might be able to get a warranty injection pump out of the dealer the first go round.
