So according the weather we are going to get atleast a foot of snow tonight with a blizzard warning and very strong winds i made the 20 mile drive home..its all highway but the roads were not plowed and were drifting bad, it was a complete white out on the parts of the road without a wind break but needless to say my 2wd performed flawless, i kept it at 35 the whole way and let it downshift on the hills incase i needed the locker to kick in..paved my own way home like it was nothen, the only thing that concerns me is the impact the suspension may have taken from the plowing through drifts and hitting snow chunks, any thoughts? ive come to the conclusion i need the following things on my next truck:heated mirrors and a leveling kit, and 4x4 just for extra comfort...

 

 

i also might add this is stupid, if you are not experienced with a 2wd in the snow or are not prepared do not attempt a long drive like this, i took my time and had the necessary items incase i did get stuck or forced into a ditch..

I was in over a foot of snow, drifts and packed roads. We were in 4wd pretty much all of the time. Pushing snow with the headlights at times. After the road was packed there was one guy driving with some damn good looking snow tires in 2wd all the time. I think they were called winterforce and they will be on my truck before next bear season. These trucks do great in the snow.

 

This is after the snow had settled a lot.

 

By the way. The Toyotas were in chains.

yeah thats about what the roads look like here, but imagine a bad crosswind ..the whole passenger side of my truck is covered in snow from the wind pummeling it...hows your front end hold up to the snow abuse?

My truck is new. But my 2 brothers both have gmt900s with 40000 miles or so on them with no problems. They have seen a lot of deep snow and backroads.

 

On the steep faces the drifts were about half way up the windows, so the wind was pretty much blowing over the truck. I should have taken a picture of that. Just another bear season.

 

Crosswinds are scary on slick roads.

I'm in WI too and enjoyed my drive home. Most of the roads were plowed by me, but the ones that were not were actually a lot of fun. You might call me crazy, but I enjoy winter driving. These trucks absolutely make it enjoyable!!

im jeleous of your snow. so far weve had that one small dropping and if it wasnt for the snow shoveling the wife did id have nothing to drive through, and now its raining and above freezing.

 

ive managed to drive msot of my life with just a 2wd vehicle and honestly ive never had any real issues. as you said you just need to take your time and adjust your driving style to fit the situation

We got about 18" in my neck of the woods yesterday and the truck performed flawlessly even with the factory Bridgestones. Even though the roads weren't plowed, I kept it in 4WD Auto and didn't have a problem. I actually wanted to test the G80 in 2WD but forgot because I was having so much fun. I'll just have to wait for the next major snow storm.

jro what part of wisconsin are you from? im from sheboygan and were still getting hammered this morning yet, they say another 4 inches. i was doing about 40 on the highway last night, in 4 wheel drive, thinking i was going plenty fast enough, and a sheriff passed me. i was just waiting for his rear wheel drive to put it in the ditch

My '06 does okay....I wouldn't say "flawless"....it tends to want to plow forward on turns...most of the time overshooting partially into the other lane....and no, I'm not going fast at all...but I've gotten used to it reacting like this and have come to expect it with every turn into a side road...the G80 also gives my heart palpitations...after making the turn, and gently getting back into the throttle, it'll lock and, if I'm not careful, turn the truck sideways....maybe I'm getting more Ice under the Snow conditions here...but I would never say that the truck is "Flawless"....hell, my Wife pulled away when she had her Pontiac GP with Traction Control....I had to throw it in 4wd just to move......hate to admit it, but maybe it's the driver, but I don't think I can "baby" it anymore than I am now.

Nice job! Im always looking for the 2wd threads, last year i took my 2wd out to the navajo reservation were they had 2ft of snow and a foot of mud under that and i went thru that stuff with no problems and worn grandtreks.and the truck had no mods yet.and it was cool watching the national gaurd hummers go thru that stuff too,and some of them got stuck,they were delivering meds and mre's to the people who were snowed in.

janesville...no snow here anymore, but the wind is terrible..they closed highway 14 and highway 11 until atleast 6:30. I was going through the snow like i had 4x4 it was insane, popping over drifts like it was nothen

This is my first year running handcook dynapro mt tires. So far i got no complaints at all. I always ran the bf goodrich prior

If memory serves, the locker won't "lock" above 30 mph. I know my '02 wouldn't. If my tires broke loose at that speed, it would one-leg it. This is a good thing. Spinning both back wheels at-speed will have you swapping ends in a hurry.
