i had a fender repainted and it looks good compaired to the rest of the truck. and they told me since it wasnt a problem before i had it done they are not fixing it. the rep said all 08's look like that i told him exactly that is why the bulletin is out.

then they tell me to take it back to the dealer i bought it from.

the GM rep is the highest that you can go in regards to your vehicle....unless you know somebody personally above his head (I never knew anybody that would go through a rep if they knew someone higher up the ladder)

all he kept saying was well it a part of the paint process. i told him well for $50,000 it sould look like the vette in the showroom.. his responce well it's a different paint process..... almost $100,000 in 2 trucks from them in the last yr and a half and trade every two and looking to buy a vette within the next year has me thinking they don't want my business anymore

Everybody's gonna hate me for saying it but even if this problem did happen with Honda or Toyota there would be a solution for sure and we wouldn't have to fight for it. Looks like GM still hasn't learned their lesson.

Oh really?

You may want to go read the Toyota forums about all of the thin paint and other paint issues with the new Tundra that Toyota is NOT doing anything about. Hell, even their painted dashes are peeling and rubbing off.

Toyota is no better than anyone else when it comes to customer service.

Well considering they bought back a pile of Tacoma's from costomers because the chassis are rusting out they sound pretty good to me. And also my uncle is on his 5th 4runner and has nothing but good to say about the service he has gotten over the years.

yeah, well I can say the same thing about my GM experience over the past 26 years too.

Go read the Toyota forums if you think they are so much better. Just as many people bitching about Toyota and it's dealers regarding warranty support as anywhere else.

Google "toyota engine sludge" too. That took years and years before Toyota even acknowledged the issue. They spent years trying to blame the owners for not changing their oil before they finally addressed the issue after losing a class action lawsuit.

Look at the situation of GM and Toyota. Both have quality issues, some worse than others. Me personally, I would rather have to deal with paint issues than SWISS CHEESE FRAME issues. it should not have even happened in the first place. The primary reason that Toyota is 'quietly' repurchasing these vehicles is to try and take care of the problem. GM could do this if they were in a better financial position, HOWEVER they did not have to contend with this fundemental problem. As for service, that does vary from dealership to dealership as well as company to company. Just remember that you are on a GM forum (Not endorsed or affiliated with GM Corp).

My '04 has bad orange peel I just assumed it was normal. Stuff like that in my opinion is not worth fighting; it's not a show truck, it's going to get scratched, faded and dinged up and look a heck of a lot worse than it does now. Now if the heater didn't work or there was a actual problem then I would complain but having ripply paint is not something to lose sleep over. And it's not going to have the same attention to detail like the vette or a Cadillac for that matter; you get what you pay for.

With all due respect, not so! I had a problem with thin paint. GM rep wanted me to take it back to the selling dealer's contract paint shop. Won't go into details, but I filed a complaint with the BBB and got a call from GM the next day. Took about a month but got a complete repaint job. And it looks 10 times better then stock.

What bulletin are you talking about?

Former 2000 Tundra owner here. Where do I start? I won't go into all of the things that were wrong on my truck that never got fixed (have said it all on other threads), but I can tell you first hand that they are no better at dealing with production and design issues at the dealership service level than any American car company. If it wasn't an easy fix, they pretty much told me it was "normal", including CSK that would make GM Vortec CSK sound like a kitten purring. I don't know why people still talk about Toyota quality. It just isn't there any more so than with the American 3. (if it ever really was any better) My neighbor has a Toyota van (Sienna?), and their kids have broken the door handles 4 times on the sliding door. An obvious design/engineering problem, but they stopped replacing them for free after the van went out of warranty.

I have an 07...

Looked over my paint last evening. It's not a Boyd Coddington Job, but it is OK.

Found a run in the driver's side door jam... goes in the big deal column in my book (it's not bad, tiny run)

I also have a few areas where the vehicle looks dented, but it's not. Right near the drivers door / EC cab door interface, near the latch, and a pretty bad spot on the driver's side bed rail, half way back.

Looks like someone took a putter and wacked the rail with the shaft of the club --- perfectly perpendicular to the rail. (in the sun anyway). When ya run your hand over it, smooth as silk.

The passenger side has a few of those too on the bed rails, but not as pronounced.

What the heck?

Back in the mid to late 70s, it wasn't that Toy was so much better, as it was the Big 3 were setting standards near the BOTTOM.

Toyota STARTED the quality bent, and caught the big 3 on the backs if their fronts initially.

Fast forward to now. Any industry-respected, peer-reviewed assessment shows that the quality gap has all but disappeared --- as a matter of fact, GM especially, has pulled far ahead on many fronts.

In the early 90s, Ford made huge strides with "Qaulity is Job 1", maintained it until the late 90s ealry 2000s, and has been sliding again. Even-so, the quality is still not BAD, just lower than the expected benchmarks anymore.

Toyota almost maintains a cult-like following of zombies that still chant toyaota-quality... the reality is, however, that they are, at best, near the middle of the pack anymore, with a surpring number of GM makes having overtaken them.

GM's advertising house otta be fired, and now.
