  1. It seems some of these truck’s issues stem from the upper end options. Not to make light of any problems but that is a big reason I went with a WT(and because I’m cheap) it has a solid rear window(at least it’s factory tinted though ha) and no multi flex tailgate among other things that I’ve noticed seem to have issues. just made me think of it when you said you’re going back to a solid rear window. hopefully it fixes the issue. these trucks should not have water issues. I mean I remember when I was a kid with old 70’s and 80’s trucks they all leaked in a car wash but in 2023 in a new truck of this cost? No.

  4. I still did not bring my Truck back in to service to check out The Super Cruise Auto Lane Change. However, on Friday 6/17, all of a sudden the auto lane change started working. Both automatically or if I initiate with a blinker. No OTA system updates in several weeks. I did get a Google Maps update around 6/16/23. I had around 3,700 miles on the truck. I do not know if the mileage driven or the google maps had anything to do with it or of these have nothing to do with it. I tried and it still worked on 6/18 and 6/19. I will keep an eye on it and hopefully it does not stop working!

  5. Installed the new Alpharex Luxx tail lights today. I ordered them back in February when they weren't out yet. Received them a month ago and finally got around to installing them.

  6. I went from a 2018 1500 5.3 6spd to a 2021 3500 6.6 6spd to a 2024 3500 6.6 10 spd and I can say that every one was a step up as far as performance. While the 5.3 was okay it lacked throttle response (dead pedal) and the DOD/AFM was a PITA. Both my 6.6 gassers were more responsive. The best thing they did for the 6.6 gas was leave the DOD/AFM crap off of it.

  7. So as the title says we're in the process of trading our 22 F250 Lariet 7.3 gas for a GMC gasser. Wasn't planning on trading it or getting rid of it but after seeing all the lifter and cam delamination issues, I'm not taking the chance. The thing is, I wasn't on the internet or YouTube looking for issues with the 7.3 at all. Unfortunately if you do any search on the Godzilla it pretty much brings up some sort of article or video of the engine failing. Yes I'm aware of the 6.6 potential for using oil. However I'd much rather have to add a quart of oil to a truck than be 1000 miles away from home towing with a family of 5 and a dog then have my motor start knocking and have to figure out how I'm going to get us all home!!!! I know that anything can happen when towing etc but these Godzilla issues are far too numerous!!! To make matters worse the dealership stories related to the 7.3 failures are Horrific. I currently do have a Chevy 2020 6.6 gas and I couldn't be happier so I'm guessing I will love the 6.6 mated to a 10 speed. Thanks for letting me rant everyone! Luke

  8. I've been holding off on sharing my thoughts until I had enough miles on my new truck to formulate an opinion. Here's some background: my previous truck was a 2020 3500 SRW High Country 4wd with the Duramax. I've been driving Duramax trucks for the last 15 years, so I'm very familiar with their capabilities. My new truck is a 2024 3500 SRW High Country 4wd with the 6.6 Gas/10spd combo. The only difference in options is the 2024 has a sunroof and the 2020 did not. The sticker price on the 2020 was just over 76k, and the sticker on the 2024 is $77,540.00. I've put just under 3000 miles now on the new truck. Let me get this out of the way right up front: I really liked the Duramax. There is no comparison in power, and in no scenario will the 6.6 gas/10spd compete with the Duramax for power. Torque is king when it comes to towing. That said, the 6.6 gas/10spd does get the job done. I've towed just over 10k (the same trailer I towed with the Duramax many times) and this is my comparison since I'm very familiar with it. The biggest discrepancy I've noticed is passing power. I'm learning to adjust my expectations on how much space I need to complete a pass. I don't want to come off as I think the truck is a slouch because it's not. I'm very impressed with the combo and how it seems to stay in the power band. I haven't noticed any violent downshifts to keep the load moving. The gasser seems to hold the speed very well, even on moderate hills. I'll update more on this once I get some more miles and towing under my belt. Driving around unloaded, the gasser is great. The transmission shifts great. My response to others that have said the 10spd is a bit busy is that it's related to the tranny learning early on. I had a little of that at first, but it's already smooth as silk. Additionally, it seems to be getting more powerful. I'm not sure if that's just me getting used to the feel of the truck or if it's reality. I haven't done any scientific 0-60 runs. Now onto mileage. I've read reports from gas owners claiming up to 20MPG's. I don't see that ever happening and I'm not sure how that would even be accomplished short of driving downhill with the wind at your back everywhere you go. The best I've seen is 17 with an average (on the DIC) of 11.4. A full tank shows a range of around 550 miles. The Duramax would sometimes flirt with a 700-mile range. Maybe the 6spd was better for MPG's? Maybe the 10spd will go up once the truck loosens up a bit. We'll see. Bottom line: I really like this truck, and it has plenty of power to handle whatever you need it to. This post was more for any current diesel owner considering the switch to gas. You just need to adjust your expectations. What you give up in towing power, you gain in cheaper fuel, and knowledge that you are driving the most reliable version of the GM HD (even though I had minimal issues with the Duramax). BUT this gas/10spd combo will get it done. Plus, with how crazy expensive these trucks are getting, you save $9390 by sticking with the gas motor. Lastly, you get to avoid the filthy diesel pumps, dragging diesel into your truck where the previous guy managed to spill a gallon of fuel and filling up DEF.

  10. Today I stopped by the Chevy Dealership I initially took my Silverado to in April for the OTA Updates not working problem and the first thing the Service Advisor told me was that there was nothing they could do since nothing was not working improperly/broken. I said that not updating is not working in my book and since they had looked at it in April and said that it was OK and it is not, something is not right. I mentioned that I had run across a preliminary technical bulletin from GM and the service advisor told me that it did not matter since their computer system did not show any open problems from GM for this vehicle. After saying that spending over $55,000 dollars and the updates won’t install, I then asked to speak to the Service Manager or Dealership Manager. The Service Manager was summoned and came out and let me know that there was nothing the service department could do, but when I pressed her regarding there being a preliminary technical bulletin that addressed my concern, provided instructions as to what needed to be done and that I was more than willing to share it with her, and I was also more than willing to demonstrate the problem to her right then and there, she agreed to see for herself what I was referring to. As soon as the OTA updates did not do anything, the service manager pressed the OnStar button and when OnStar answered, she identified herself to the OnStar representative, told the rep what the problem was and then after the OnStar rep verified me as the owner/subscriber, we were transferred to the wrong department. That lady did at least offer to transfer us to the correct department, and after about 45 minutes of waiting for OnStar to research the problem and get supervisor approval, OnStar decided to escalate the problem to their development team to figure out what is going on. I should hear from the OnStar development team in 1 to 3 days, and they will determine if they can handle the problem or if a dealership needs to handle the problem. I also made it clear that I had tried to get the OTA updates through the OnStar system and also through a Wi-Fi connection and that neither worked. As soon as I know more, I will provide an update.

  11. June 20, 2023, 1 year anniversary. 37,850 kms (23,600 miles). Gave truck rides to a couple deer and a wolf. Towing trailer: Summer vacay to Okanogan, two hunting trips to the north, 10 weekends on the ice including one way up north and needing to be chained up to get into, two weekends spring sturgeon fishing, and now gearing back up for summer Okanogan trip again. Best truck I’ve had, zero issues, so quiet and comfortable, tows like a champ, all kinds of power, hills and elevation handled low stress and easy. Love the subtle turbo spooling sounds. Still smile every time I get in it and first pull away hearing that 57mm turbo start to sing. Bowtie till we die!

  12. I'd also consider DSSV Multimatics. I added them to my 21' AT4 and they really work. They are soft on the highway, almost like riding a magic carpet. But they permit very little body roll and zero pogo effect. Off-road at speed they're great. Slower off-road they're better than stock for sure but the difference isn't as dramatic.

  13. Guys, A few of you may have noticed a thread where I had been having evap large leak issues, then a fuel leak issue with my truck. I finally got all that resolved by replacing all the fuel lines. Anywho - I went to buy a motorcycle this past weekend. I went from south Atlanta metro to between Orlando & Tampa to buy the bike. Turns out it was a turd, so I told the dude to pound sand, and didn't buy it, and rolled back home. I wanted to just put my $0.02 in when it comes to mpg. The trailer is a simple 875 pound 5' x 10' single axle utility trailer. I fold the trailer ramp down forward, laying it on the bed of the trailer and strapping it down. It does have steel grating, but is a fairly big wind drag when the trailer is empty (why I lay it down out of the way). I ran 70 mph on the way down there and 70 mph on the way back. I know some of you guys like to cruise at 90 mph, so yeah ... I roll slow. The good thing is, the traffic was heavy (but moving), and since I was going slower than most (speed limit 70 mph, I was rock steady on GPS verified 70 mph), I never had to back off the cruise. I just stayed over out of the way the just let it cruise. I had no issues, I just relaxed and enjoyed the ride. The point being, I averaged 19.00 mpg over the whole trip. 954 miles / 50.208 gallons. So yeah, you can look at it as I wasted $167 in fuel (true). But I dodged a much bigger bullet not buying that turd. The truck ran great. Had no issues over that trip. I used A/C maybe 30% of the time (blows ice). It seems to be running really good ... for now. The truck is a 4.8L SCSB 2WD.

  14. You're right. I agree with you 99%. The only 1% exception was that this was / is a rare motorcycle. It felt like it had been crashed. And there were some other suspicious issues, so I just walked away. But yeah, you are right.

  16. Driving it once a month, still would put a battery tender on it while its parked or you may go to use it one day and the battery is dead. NEVER start it and just let it idel, worst thing you can do, IMO>

  17. I wouldn’t worry much about 7.3 gas. Internet causes people a lot of grief Most of the time shouldn’t worry about. I have a 2015 LML with 130K and people act like they are all destined to blow fuel pumps. I know it happens but it’s a small percentage just like lifter failures on 7.3’s. If it happens to you then yeah it sucks, but the chance is likely small. Having said that, I’m happy with my 24 gas and it is a great platform. My 23 didn’t use any oil and I don’t have enough miles on the 24 to report if it uses oil yet.

  18. Try a pick and pull scrap yard. This setup has been common across a lot of GM vehicles for quite a few years now.

  19. Sounds like I might look like a high miler' compared to you going forward. 13,700 on my 16' recently traded. Didn't sit inside but our rule was driving it every couple weeks, keeping full of gas and washed every 4-6 weeks. In winter, where we used it when snowy, and washed it sometimes twise a week. Changed oil once a year. last time in Mar, less than a 1000 miles on last change. I sold farm equipment for 17 years - I can say with absolution, sitting doing nothing is the worst thing possible. If it sits too long, squatters will move in

  22. yep, most leaks come from the actual frame cracking, not the bolts. I don't understand why they use a plastic frame. Using a metal frame would eliminate this. I can't see how all these warranty claims are cheaper than switching material

  23. Some talk here about whether this is from the window or scoop bolts. Pretty sure scoop bolts are fine for most of us - although the 15 or so bolts on the top of the cab needs to just go away in the next body/build/version, if only for piece of mind. I don't know who thought a scoop and 15 holes on a cab would be a good idea - but amazingly they seem NOT to be the issue (at least for me). Videos were too large to attach, but you can see what I found in a couple pics below - all bolts dry, window leaking in streams from the sides, cracks, etc. you take the trim and headline off, more easily seen how the outer portions of the window tag the headliner, somewhat makes it look like the leaks are above the window. Maybe some do have those scoop bolts leaking but mine came from 4 separate spots. Two are pictured below. Solid back window coming this week, through glass specialty shop. No dealership from me, too many times I've come back to pick up my truck with ten other things broken and needing repair. Learned my lesson there. I'll start a separate sting and stop hijacking this. I need to make sure I wire up defrost right (slider has connections for each side window, solid window will just have one set), and I am curious about an overhead console that deletes the button for the rear slider. It'd be nice to delete that button if I've gone to a solid back window.

  25. Id sell it rent from enterprise when I need it or uhaul. for three times a year. But if you live in winter climate, its best to let it sit, starting it idling for however long just creates condensate and really isnt productive

  26. I leave the liners in all year. Carpeted mats that came with it are in a pile with the carpet mats for several previous trucks.

  27. I would echo your exact sentiments, have had many diesels, and had a 21 Chevy 2500 diesel and traded in for a 2022 2500 Gasser. In a way I was let down but let me explain. As far as breaking, handling etc there will be no differences, short of the diesel does have the exhaust brake which helps. And however you cut it the gasser will never compare, ever. My main let down is passing especially while towing, there are times now specially on two lanes that I just cant pass in the gasser. Theres also setting the cruise at 78mph and going up hills in TN hauling a 6k boat and with the diesel I was passing people on the interstate and the diesel wasn’t breaking a sweat, but you are not doing that in the gasser. The gasser I also feel like is a lot less responsive in just regular in and around then the diesel and even half tons I have had. Conversely with the gasser its 10k cheaper and fuel is about 1.25-$2 cheaper a gallon over the last two years, although the diesel did get 20-30% better mpg, the gasser was still cheaper. With diesel not all stations have it, it stinks and just requires more filter and maint, you go from $75 oil changes to double or more than that. But like you never seeing sustained 20mpg in the gasser, no way no how, although did see it in the diesel a few times in ideal conditions. For me my main thing is hauling around a 6k boat 3-4 months out of the year 90% of the time 20min away, but max would be an hour away, with no hills, and then utility trailer with various things on it. But really just want a truck that I could throw or haul anything I wanted that most average guys would do, and the gasser does that. In my situation because of the 10k upcharge on the diesel I was able to trade it in, which was a highly optioned LT and an AT4 gasser for really the same money, did debate getting an LT level gasser and saving money, but for a more bucks a month I went with the high option. End of the day hauling around a boat 10-12 times a year just didn’t justify the added cost of the diesel, im saving 75 bucks a fill up a week, do the math, plus cutting of maintenance. With that said if I was retired doing lots of interstate hauling and so forth, theres no way I wouldn’t be in a diesel as the gas set up is really inferior by a wide margin.

  29. Bought a lightly used 2018 Denali with 6.2L. Has a brand new TQ converter installed and the new correct transmission fluid. Added 5 year bumper to bumper for 100k. Really liking the magna ride and comfort of the K2 seats. I am planning on Corsa exhaust, CAI, and tuning it to get rid of the AFM, tire adjustment, and speedo limit. Also liking paying HALF of the price on a pre-certified truck compared to a brand new one.
