  1. I know. It was for some of the 3.0 owners that were posting/following. Is your noise the high pressure fuel pump?
  2. They created the new oil spec for a reason. They only use it in this motor. They don't call for it in the 6.6L big brother. It uses the same spec as most semi truck-sized and large offroad diesels. They don't call for it in the 2.8L little brother either. It calls for a third type of oil. The emissions stuff on the 3.0L is combined in a way we have not seen before. I haven't seen any document that says for sure, but it would seem likely that the additives in DexosD are different from the other oils so that are compatible with the unique emissions on the 3.0L. Emissions stuff is stupid expensive to replace. And there won't be any warranty if they determine the wrong oil spec was used.
  3. For the Duramax folks: - there may be an unnecessary exhaust isolator https://gm-techlink.com/?p=13612 Duramax Diesel Exhaust Isolator No Longer in Production August 31, 2020 A missing exhaust isolator (Fig. 5) on 2020 Silverado and Sierra models equipped with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine (RPO LM2) and the single exhaust system (RPO NB5) should not be installed as part of a warranty claim at the dealership. Fig. 5 The exhaust isolator is no longer installed in order to address a noise concern. However, the exhaust hanger on the frame and the hanger on the exhaust pipe are still in production. The exhaust hanger on the other side of the exhaust pipe near this location is still connected. (Fig. 6) These changes went into effect at the Fort Wayne assembly plant on June 17, 2020 and are part of the continuous product improvement process. Light-duty trucks with the diesel engine and single exhaust built at the Silao assembly plant have not yet removed the isolator from production. Fig. 6 The exhaust hanger was communicating an exhaust boom due to a structural vibration. Without the isolator connecting the exhaust pipe to the hanger, the boom sound is eliminated. At the same time, it was determined that the hanger is not needed at that location on the exhaust pipe and that durability and the function of the exhaust are unaffected. If an exhaust isolator is installed on the exhaust pipe and connected to the hanger, the exhaust boom sound may be heard. A warranty claim should not be submitted for installing the exhaust isolator. TIP: The Electronic Parts Catalog may show the eliminated exhaust hanger on the single exhaust pipe. The catalog is currently being updated to remove the hanger.
  4. Sounds to me like they know what happened at the spring supplier. But... they aren't 100% sure where the improperly manufactured springs ended up. And no way in hell they're gonna tell us what caused the problem.
  5. That makes sense now. I was struggling with how you could have ordered a new 2020 in late Sept when the were done taking 2020 orders. I ordered a 2021 mid Sept. Got word today that it's built.
  6. How come they're still shipping a 2020? Was it a dealer transfer, rather than a new build?
  7. A lot of things change over a 15 year period.
  8. GM's website says the multi-function tailgate is "late availability" on the 1500 Silverado. The order guide still show the power up/down tailgate as standard on the higher trim Silverados.
  9. I wouldn't be concerned about 215-225F transmission temperatures. But if you're looking to order/find a 2021 you will get a lot of recommendations for the 10 speed. MQB Transmission, 10-speed automatic, electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. Includes Cruise Grade Braking and Powertrain Grade Braking On Custom TrailBoss - Included and only available with (L87) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. On LT - Included and only available with (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine. On RST and LTZ - Included and only available with (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine or (L87) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. On LT Trailboss - standard On HC - Included and only available with 4WD models, (LM2) Duramax 3.0L Turbo-Diesel I6 engine or (L87) 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine. 3.0 is not available on either TrailBoss The diesels add exhaust braking to the mix, which can make long downgrades less dependent on the service brakes. Some don't want diesel (3.0L), some don't want to use high test (6.2L). If you're happy with the current 5.3L, then the 10 speed and the newer 5.3L is likely to do the job even better.
  10. Are you sure it's not just the indicator light not coming one? Not sure about the latest programming, but earlier ones the seat would heat, but the light won't come on....and when the key was turned the heated stuff would shut off. Not sure if this has been changed for the new style.
  11. What car you driving?
  12. Doesn't the warranty provide a loaner if they can't fix the vehicle right away?
  13. Make sure that both the truck and trailer connectors have clean pins/sockets.
  14. That's why I said drive, but not own. Kinda like renting a sports car once in awhile to relieve the itch. I won't be owning a Hellcat or GT500 either.
  15. I'd like to drive a Hummer EV. I'm not sure I'm ready/willing to own one.
  16. The last time I bought a truck that didn't have them from the factory, I bought them from accessories. I lived on a gravel road for many years, and was living there at the time. I think that was when the liners were still plastic without the carpet type surface. Reduced both noise and chips from the gravel. Lots of buyers are looking for an inexpensive tool. They don't want to be paying for things that don't directly serve the job at hand. Some buyers just don't care at all, and of course there all also those that don't even notice the difference when they walk around one. Guess I'm saying there is also a risk in adding extra stuff that some think isn't needed and causing reduced price competitiveness. One persons 'skimp' is another's 'unnecessary cost'. Fortunately we have choices in trim. options and accessories.
  17. I hate to admit it, but I've found that as you get older, and the tires get taller, it gets more difficult. Back in the days when 235/75R15 = 28.9x9.3R15 was the optional 'bigger' tire size, and bedsides and floors were much lower, and I was 40 years younger - it wasn't an issue. (they were about 28 or 29" tall)
  18. Yes, Trailboss is a 1500 thing. But to answer the question as it applies to 1500's ... (similar story on HD's) There is more than one way to get them -- but they are not 'standard' on LT TrailBoss B1J Wheelhouse liners, rear - Standard on LTZ and HC - On LT, RST and LT Trailboss -- "Included and only available with (WPQ) Bed Protection Package." Then: WPQ Bed Protection Package, includes (B1J) wheelhouse liners and (CGN) Chevytec spray-on bedliner On LT - Included with (PDZ) Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package. On RST- Included with (PDZ) Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package or (STH) Rally Edition. On LT Trailboss - Included with (WJP) Midnight Edition. On Sierra Standard on SLT, AT4 and Denali B1J Wheelhouse liners, rear On SLE - Included and only available with (PCQ) Convenience Package. On Elevation - Included and only available on (PCR) Elevation Convenience Package or (PCU) Elevation Convenience Package with bucket seats. I didn't check for currently, but in the past rear wheel well liners have been available thru parts and accessories
  19. Choices in powertrain and cab/box combos are a good thing to have. 4 versions/trims announced. Different power levels and features The 1000HP version is $112,000....but reservations for that one are already full. (but you can reserve another level and be waitlisted for the Edition1) https://www.gmc.com/electric-truck/hummer-ev/reserve-now EV Edition 1 - 1000 hp, 11,500 ft-lb, starts at $112k available fall 2021 EV3x - 800hp, 9500 ft-lb, starts at $100k, available fall 2022 EV2x - 625hp, 7400 ft-lb, starts at $90k, available spring 2023 EV2 - 625hp, 7400 ft-lb, starts at $80k, available spring 2024 GM Canada website doesn't have the reservation thing available, and says in Canada, initial availability is fall of 2022....
  20. 1300 miles / 17.5 miles per gallon = 74.3 gallons of fuel. 3.5 def/ 74 fuel x 100% = 4.7%, or 4.4 gallons def per 100 gallons fuel. FWIW, that's about triple what my 6.6's seem to use. (both on miles per def gallon and def/fuel ration basis)
  21. Was it topped off before the trip or just a gauge check or...? What was the fuel usage/mileage for the trip?

  24. The Allison branded one (10L1000) is capable approximately double the torque of the 6.6 gasser. If the gasser gets a 10 speed, I'd guess it won't be the one that's behind the 6.6 Dmax.
  25. The jack location for a front wheel is on the frame. Anybody checked/verified the jack height for front wheel change on a factory lift? (I'd guess GM checked it, but since we're talking about it......) Front Position — 1500 Models If the flat tire is on the front of the vehicle, position the jack under the bracket attached to the vehicle's frame, behind the flat tire, as shown.
