Power tailgate won't open
Daverado replied to Windmill Greaser's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Maybe the cover is mounted too far back? On my BAK cover the weather seal only partly sits on top of the gate at the front edge. It hangs down a bit from the cover so the gate pushes into it slightly on raise. The gate doesn't try to squeeze under the seal. Not sure about your cover but that seal design made perfect sense for allowing the cover to close onto the gate or the gate to close with the cover down. I was impressed how simple the answer was after my old BAK cover that had to be open to close the gate. -Daver -
2019 Silverado Backup Camera Problems
Daverado replied to JayTrailBoss's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
So... we don't have a problem running anybody over or hitting something. But there's a problem of bad drivers running people over and getting into accidents. So if I understand what you're saying, the damage is from drivers that don't use their backup cameras? Thing is you're partially right. The law doesn't fix the bad drivers that refuse to use everything at their disposal to avoid hitting people. That includes turning their head, mirrors, and cameras. You can't fix stupid. The law does help the situations where good drivers who do look and use their mirrors accidentally hit something behind them they cannot see by just looking or using mirrors. Cameras do provide unrealistic and distorted views, that is true. Mirrors also deceive btw. They give reversed images, and convex/concave mirrors distort the image. You've learned how to use mirrors but you refuse to learn how to use your camera. Was that your point? -
2019 Silverado Backup Camera Problems
Daverado replied to JayTrailBoss's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Rearward visibility is required by law, it's not a "luxury". It's a law because people have died. There is no way you can see what's below behind your tailgate from inside the cab with just your mirrors and turning your head. It's foolish to pretend you can. It's foolish to pretend a camera right on the tailgate can't do better. I don't doubt that you haven't thought twice about it, but I guess we have the law now so you don't have to think. A buggy camera probably doesn't meet the standards of the law. The law doesn't require a camera, it requires visibility of a specific area behind the vehicle. Sounds like OP's camera does not provide the required visibility. https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2014/03/31/nhtsa-rear-view-cameras/7114531/ -

It's straightforward enough. Your's is a K2 platform truck, not a T1 platform truck. All of your answers will be in the K2 forum, not the T1 forum. It would be confusing for both 2019-K2 and 2019-T1 owners if the forums listed 2014-2019 and 2019 as the two different forums. As it is now it's only confusing for 2019-K2, so it's better. -

Yes, Stone Blue is a last-gen K2 color. NorthSky/Pacific Blue is the new T1 generation blue. -

You're not alone. From the 3/4 view those headlights and grill design do remind of the F150. That bar cutting into the headlights is a pretty significant and obvious design feature. Continue that bar across the grill and done. I was not a fan the first time I saw it, and ultimately that front-end is largely why I got a Silverado instead. Not sure why others refuse to see it. -

I think it's because the lighting hides a lot of the character lines, especially on the hood. The GMT800s were smoother bodies in general, not so busy with lines everywhere. -Daver -
Detailed Notes And Images On New Jeep Gladiator
Daverado replied to Gorehamj's topic in Article & Review Archive (Pre-2019)
The Jeep look works for Jeep very well, why would they ruin it by "modernizing" it? What exactly do you think they have to gain? You're not going to buy one even if they do follow your advice. It's not really for me I think, but this truck is a hell of a package. Finally got our Dakota convertible successor! -Daver -

What's in the manual is written by technical writers, not by engineers. It is informed by the engine designers, filtered through marketing communications or the product development organization, and finally approved by the business. It is not a purely technical document, and it's intent is not to convey what is absolutely best for the product performance. It is intended to convey what is best for the business. What is best for the business is profit. Depending on the business climate that may be short-term or long-term profit. In many cases what is best for the business and what is best for product performance coincide. In those cases the customer wins. In other cases the business develops a product with planned obsolescence as the goal. To ensure future long-term repeat customers and profit, and not produce a product that lasts forever and never has repeat customers. In most cases customers get a quality balance. The product has to last long enough that the customer is convinced it is quality enough to purchase again. Poor perceived quality loses customers. Perfect quality also loses customers. So the maintenance guidelines are generally intended to allow the product to fulfill the terms of the warranty contract at a minimum. At some point after that commitment the company doesn't really want the product to last forever though.

2.7 Turbo 4 Fan Club
Daverado replied to ShamrockShooter's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I think it's not that complicated really. The computer knows how much fuel it's using, and the car generally knows how many miles it has traveled with some margin of error (turns and tire size/inflation introduce variance there). With more sophisticated fuel-injection systems comes tighter control over fuel and the ability to count it. So the car is just as capable of doing the miles/gallon math as you are. Whether the car achieves the advertised mileage according to the sticker is another issue entirely from whether the number the DIC gives you is real-world-accurate. -
2019 GMC AT4 w. empty trailer bottoming out!
Daverado replied to 21STCMC's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Shocks can slow down bottoming out, they are supposed to reduce the bounciness/"shock" of the springs working. If you are fully bottomed-out and not just bouncing off the bump stops occasionally then you need stronger or taller springs, not different shocks. If you are just bouncing off the stops then stronger shocks might be enough to slow/stop that. Shocks don't hold the truck up, springs do. Airbags are spring alternatives not shock alternatives so that sounds like a good choice. -
This has come up in other threads recently. Mine definitely does not have this kind of play in it... very solid. Others chimed in similarly. So I assume it's not supposed to.

GM Financing - Early refinance
Daverado replied to ColoradoDaily's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
If you plan to refinance elsewhere, then you should subtract the interest cost from the alternative bank to find out the "extra" cost of GM financing over that 6 months. If you planned to pay cash but finance just to get that incentive then your math is solid. -
A few years back to get my lowered truck through an arched 7ft garage door I chopped down the stock antenna 4-5". It was a pretty straightforward procedure.. pull off the top ball, chop the mast down a bit (careful with the spiral wire wound around). I had to bevel the tip to fit back in the ball and used friction plus green loctite retainer to glue it back together. It's cheap enough to buy a new shorter one, but since I had all the stuff on-hand to shorten mine a penny-saved... I also liked that I could get a custom length that was just slightly taller than the roofline as a clearance indicator. Pretty much any antenna change will affect your reception, keep that in mind. Since radio is a range of frequencies and antennas are aiming for a multiple of the size of the wave, some stations will likely improve with a small change, and some will likely degrade. Of course change it enough and they're all out of range. Hopefully the stations you like are in the better group, not the worse. On the '19 so far I found that removing my antenna entirely has worked out great but I don't listen to the radio lol.

There's quite a difference between questioning the efficacy of a safety feature (fair and reasonable) and actively recommending people not use it (insane). Parking brakes are better at immobilizing a vehicle than automatic transmissions are. They're also cheaper and easier to repair. Using a parking brake for parking on any surface is really a no-brainer. You've questioned the necessity benefit of the brake, but you haven't really explained any benefit to not using it.

It looks like a lot more glare coming off the right side. Maybe it's your camera angle, but if it's your beam pattern oncoming drivers are going to hate you. -Dave

Does your gauge cluster go blank at the same time? I've noticed music getting choppy occasionally and one time I saw that the cluster crashed/rebooted at the same time. -

My 2003 Sierra Denali has an open pocket up top like that. It's got a small lip at the entrance and it's really not enough to keep things from flying out occasionally. -

Which part# is that? I had AVS-194805 on backorder from Summit for months before they finally gave up and refunded.
