  1. That's the rub isn't it? The 3.0 diesel performs great, but the engine is more expensive, fuel is more expensive, and then you have to buy cat piss (DEF) regularly. I don't have the time to compare the numbers, but in the end, are you really saving any money by going diesel? How much more expensive is maintaining a diesel truck vs a gas powered one? That being said, I'll stick with my "pokey" 5.3L V8 until the turbo engines can dramatically improve in MPG.
  2. Thanks for the review on the 4 banger, 4banger! I had a bad experience with a turbo engined truck (Ford ecoboost) and that's why I went with the 5.3L V8 in my Chevy. I'd love to know how these new turbo four engines do past 100K miles and beyond. They're just too new. We'll be on electric engines probably by the next time I buy a new truck though.
  3. You're in the wrong sub-forum buddy. This is for 2019-21 Silverados, which is why the mileage is so low. My 2020 stock TrailBoss LT w/ 5.3L & 10Spd has 35K trouble-free miles. Nothing wrong with the truck at all, only had it in for oil-changes and tire rotation. Looking forward to getting it over 100K miles and seeing how it compares to my old 2012 F150 Ecoturd that was in bad shape at that many miles.
  4. Yep, these are the loudest tires I've owned on a truck. I've got ~33K miles and the droning is terrible around 50-60mph. I have plenty of tread left, but I'm seriously considering ditching them for some Michelin LTX AT/2's.
  5. I'd probably lean Ram the next go around. I've had a Ford EcoTurd F150, never again. I've owned multiple Tacoma's and while I like them, they're just too small. Never had a Tundra, but I could never get over their interior and the tech was ancient (prior to the latest model). My ex-FIL has an older Tundra (circa 2008) and it's just as basic a truck as you can get. Might work for some people, but it's not for me. I'd like to try out what the Ram has to offer, just scared of the reliability reputation. My current TrailBoss is my first Chevy (although not my first GM vehicle). Currently VERY SATISFIED with it and can't ask for more. Well except quieter tires, but I'm fixing that myself soon.
  6. I like the RiskRacing jugs, but they clearly state they're not for gas or drinking water for that matter. That being said, I'm curious if anyone is actually using them for transporting fuel? I'd love to have a 5 gal one for when I go trekking through the mountains. Or even just carrying gas for my lawnmowers...
  7. Love my 5.3L w/10spd. Gets decent gas mileage for a V8, has enough get up and go for EVERY situation I've found myself in these past 2 years. And I love not having to pay $$$ for premium. Not gonna knock the 6.2 or 3.0 diesel or even the turbo 4. All of their place and intended uses. In my case, I use my truck as a daily driver doing about 40 miles round trip with a mix of city and hwy driving. On the weekends during the summer, I tow my 21ft boat. On the weekends during the winter, I head up to my mountain cabin which is on an unpaved trail with a decent incline. The 5.3L has done everything I've asked it to do. I would not benefit one iota from a 6.2 and I absolutely do not regret getting the 5.3. The only thing I wish for my truck was that it did not have the auto start/stop feature. And better shocks. I've enjoyed the 30K miles I've put on these past two years and I'm looking forward to many thousand more!
  8. I concur with the DuraTracs being loud. Have them now in my TrailBoss and at 27K miles I'm about ready to chuck them and buys something else. I still have plenty of tread left but the drone is unbearable. I rotate every oil change (~5K miles) and they're inflated correctly. Most of my driving is streets/highways with the occasional off-roading adventure. The DT's are fine offroad but so are a bunch of other tires that I've seen be mentioned that are quieter.
  9. I'd suggest Carvana too. I did it with my leased Lexus RX350 and they gave me a really good deal. OP, be aware (beware) that Carvana really sucks when getting paperwork together. It was a little bit of a hassle having to submit everything multiple times and them rejecting it for whatever made-up reasons. Sometimes they're a bit hit and miss. If they're offering more than the dealer, it may be worth it, it may not.
  10. Supercharging and focusing on monstrous HP/TQ numbers is stupid as all hell. Focus that engineering talent and give me a more efficient V8 with MPG numbers in the 30's without hybridizing it or reducing the HP/TQ it has now and you'll sell way more than a supercharged freak that I doubt anyone on this forum could afford anyways. Just thought I'd troll give a different perspective. Carry on...
  11. Hoping for some this weekend, but here in central NC it'll most likely be ice. And when there's ice, I keep my butt home. Ain't nobody need to be driving on ice.
  12. WOW!!! That looks sick! Great job! Did you install yourself? If so, how hard was it?
  13. Exactly! I can't tell when DFM activates on my 5.3 w/10spd trans. However I do feel vibration, but that's from the crappy DuraTracs that I can't wait to get rid of. I think people just want to hate on any new technology and then there's the "I pAiD fOr A v8 and mUh FrEeDuMz!!!" people...
  14. I loved the adaptive cruise control I had on my old Lexus RX350. Helps when I just want to cruise with traffic instead of passing everyone in sight. Makes long distance driving outside of the city more enjoyable and less tiring as well. Now the lane keeping assist was a piece of crap in that Lexus. Bounced from side to side and occasionally wanted to take me on off ramps. Also had to have my hands on the steering wheel which kinda defeats its purpose. But since it wasn't that reliable, I had to do that anyways. GM's Super Cruise is supposed to be more like a Tesla in that it's truly hands free driving. For long trips on highways, I'd definitely appreciate it. I wouldn't use it solely, I do still want to be in command of the vehicle. But there are times like when I'm eating on the go... it'd be nice to have Super Cruise take over while I open that burger wrapping for a few seconds. I'd still likely keep one hand on the wheel after that.
  15. I've noticed that too. My horn gets used regularly here in the city with the crappy drivers we have. It's just not emphatic enough for a truck. I need something louder and weighty. Looking into aftermarket horns...
  16. That seems stupid, why would you do this? Just drive it as normal and if it breaks it breaks and you're covered under the 5 year/60K mile powertrain warranty. If anything is going to happen I'd rather it happen sooner rather than later when you're out of warranty.
  17. Barring any troubles on my 2020 TrailBoss, I'll hold on to it until I pay it off, and then hold on to it for longer than that. If it does what my 2012 F150 EcoTurd started doing @100K miles, then I'll dump her for the next shiny thing. Right now I'm at 21K miles and she's doing great!
  18. I think Chevy really killed it! Love that the ZR2 has electronic diff locks for front and rear. Those multimatic shocks look awesome. And the interior is amazing, love the shifter and the new screen. Only thing I didn't like was that the driver dash screen is all digital now. I hate digital tachs/speedos and love the analog version. Keep the analog tachs/speedos and put a bigger info screen between the two and I'd have been happy. My Lexus RX350 has the digital tach and I think it's ugly and low-res. I much prefer analog there.
  19. 2004 Toyota Tacoma CrewCab TRD PreRunner Limited 2012 Ford F150 SuperCrew XLT EcoBoost 4WD 2016 Toyota Tacoma CrewCab TRD Off-Road 4WD 2020 Chevy Silverado LT TrailBoss Of all of those trucks, my TrailBoss has been my favorite. The PreRunner was 2WD and I really needed a 4WD. The F150 started crapping out at 100K miles and for that reason I'll never own another turbo truck. The 2016 Tacoma, and Tacomas in general, are just too small and uncomfortable for long-distance driving for this fat, 6' dude. I've got 16K miles on my TrailBoss and I'm hoping she makes it to 200K.
  20. LOL, I always knew there would be people like you who would buy my craptastic Ford EcoTurd with just over 100K miles on it. The older trucks were more reliable because they were simpler and didn't have things like turbo-charged engines to save miniscule amounts of gas or electronics prone to fail that take out your entire engine. That being said, I'm hoping my electronics-laden 5.3 DFM Silverado lasts longer than my turbo F150 did, but I'm not hopeful...
  21. Well this comment didn't age well. And dang have I driven some miles this year! I'm at 16K miles now in August and my Duratracs are droning and starting to vibrate things in the cabin. Only happens between over 45mph and doesn't happen when I'm trailering my boat. We'll see how long I can stand these tires before I head over to KO2's. And I still want to replace the crappy Ranchos...
  22. Congrats and welcome to the club! Would have loved the Denali, but was a little too pricey for me at the time.
  23. There's break-in guidance? Learn something new everyday. While I didn't do WOT, I also didn't drive like my grandma in her late-80's Buick (RIP her and the car). Still haven't done a full WOT run yet either after 15K miles.
  24. Sounds like the OP's mind is made up, but just adding a data point for those interested in this in the future. My 2020 5.3L averages around 20MPG on the highways and 17 in the city. This is with auto start/stop manually disabled (every frickin time I start my truck) and a CAI cold air intake. Everything else stock. I have a slight lead foot. I'll be pulling a 22' center console boat (roughly 4K lbs) soon and I'll report in the gas mileage towing that to the beach and back (2-2.5 hours). edit: the 20MPG is what I see normally (day to day doing about 45 miles and mix of city/highway). My best 400 mile MPG was 21.9 which was done on a trip from Orlando, FL to Durham, NC. Also, I'd never consider diesel due to additional cost from DEF and the fuel itself. Maintenance, other than oil changes, I have done via the dealer or a local shop I know who has serviced other vehicles of mine. Diesel has always a more expensive option for shops to do maintenance on. In the end, gas 5.3 was the best option for me and pairing that with the 10spd auto makes it a no-brainer in my book for those who don't want to deal with the hassle of diesel or premium in a 6.2.
  25. I got the CAI CAI and I've been very pleased with it. I don't drive WOT that often, but when I do get on the gas, it makes a righteous growl that I love. Need to get the exhaust changed out as well so it'll complement it. I didn't get a tune and I have no basis as to performance gains as I did it as soon as I got the truck.
