Dash Lights

I noticed today while towing that just the lit part of the dash that shows what gear i am in starts to fade and almost disapears. My trailer has electric brakes. Does it have anything to so with current draw? and if so why is it just there and nothing else on the dash. I can do diagnostics right from my brake controller and read the outputs and the battery is reading around 14v. I have and 05 silverado 1500. Everything was plug and play. I didnt have to do any hard wiring. I bought the oem cable and found the connection under the dash on a panel. Im wondering if i missed something or need more power.

I realized today it has nothing to do with towing. I wasnt towing and It still happend

Sadly this seems to be a common problem with the cluster.. Some other folks might be able to chime in on this. It started happening on my old 99 Silverado after about 100,000 miles. Banging on the dash or smashing in the trip odo button sometimes got it to come back on. I took the cluster apart and made sure everything was snug and secure, still did it.
