Aux Battery Setup

There is a lot of "electrical engineering" which goes into the design of a second battery. (Size of wires, fuses, fusible links, relays, etc.) You are best to go to a GM dealer and have them install it.

Or get a GM Factory Service Manual set for your year/model vehicle and this would have the complete wiring diagrams for all this. Order that from helminc.com or a GM dealer.

The wiring diagrams and description of operation would explain how the second battery system works as designed. Then to make modifications to this if you wanted something to work differently, you would need to be able to understand automotive wiring and wiring diagrams or take your vehicle to an automotive electric shop.

I certainly don't want to modify the way it's designed but it seems from searching here there are a few options. My mechanic friend suggested that there would be a kit including the relays and all wiring harnesses. I am hoping someone here can tell me what that kit is.

Go to JCWhitney . com and search for a battery isolator. The battery isolator is the relay that you can use to install a seconary battery that can be drained without affecting your primary battery, allowing you to start your truck as usual. You can also look at this kit : Battery kit . It is way too expensive, but it gives you an idea how the secondary battery can be setup. The kits sold at jcwhitney are much cheaper JCWhitney . I am planning on doing this very soon. It is not too hard to do. Follow directions carefully, and you'll be fine.

Good luck.
