Hello all,

As the title states, I purchased my second General Motors truck not too long ago. It's a green Sonoma with the 4.3l Vortec V6. My first truck was a 1986 Chevy Custom Deluxe. Here's the reason I bought the Sonoma = 44,000mi on the ODO. I got her home to do a little tune up and found one of the plug wires disconnected. O_O. It was that way for long enough for the plug wire to be rusty so I'm in the market for a new set.

I am a firm believer in DIY and do all work on my vehicles myself. I just replaced all of the plugs with NGK's (except the #3 plug), treated the upper cylinders and fuel injectors with Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant, shot some throttle body cleaner in the TB, and I'm currently flushing the coolant as it doesn't look too good. I also had to siphon out some P/S fluid because the pump is going out. I replaced the fluid with some Lucas P/S fluid hoping it will save the pump. If not, I'll just throw a new one up in there.

Just gonna read up on my truck and see if anyone has any suggestions to make life easier. To start, I have some Noob questions. Are the Helms manuals the best ones to get for this vehicle? Does anyone have a tip for replacing the #3 spark plug (without prying on the steering column)? Is not being able to shift into first gear a bad thing? < sarcastic but true!

Thanks ahead of time for the responses and I hope to add to this community while I have her.

Well, it was bittersweet because i paid $1k less than what she was worth and the insurance company paid me book value. In the end I came out ahead.

Well I guess it all works in one way or another.

So the update here would be:

Power steering fluid siphoned. P/S pump and fuel system treated with Lucas products.

Coolant flushed using PEAK coolant system flush.

>Replace coolant using DEX-COOL and DEX-COOL 50/50 to top it off in the reservoir.

Cleaned coolant reservoir and oil access panel using Purple Power.

Replaced spark plugs using NGK plugs.

Removed old stereo wiring additions in the engine bay and removed old alarm wiring.

T/B cleaned.

Air filter inspected.

Welcome, truck looks great.

Thanks a lot. I just finished changing out the #3 plug, all of the plug wires, fuel filter, cap, and rotor. The P/S pump sounds a lot better after the Lucas treatment and she starts a whole lot smoother after the tune-up! I will upload some more pictures tonight after I'm done wrenching.

Surfing through Haynes. Looking at the EDI system. Probably going to check the coil for grounds, primary and secondary resistance.
