I have read alot on here about clay bar. I still dont understand what it does. Do you do the whole truck or certain areas. ie. scratches? I want to wax my truck soon and im thinking i might want to look into using a clay bar first.

I just did my whole truck and its super clean. It gets marks, grime and stuff off of you truck and paint that waxing and buffing can't. It took me about 4 hours to do my complete crew cab truck. You will definately like the end results

Full truck...

it will help take off the dirt and scrape off the old wax. when you run your hand across the paint today...you prob notice the rough surface...the clay bar will help remove the rough surface...along with the body scrub...there is a detail directions on meguiars.com

I would do a 3 step process...

meguiars clay bar

meguiars body scrub (step 1 process)

wax (step 4 process)

I would skip the polish...that is just me...its seems that the polish does not do too much for me...tho i have a black truck...if you have a lighter color...it might make a diff.

if you go to any walmart or autozone and get meguiars wax...

PM me if you have any other questions.

Check out www.autopia.org lots of info and video clips to take anyone through the whole process, from washing to the final coat or wax and everything in between.

A clay bar removes the contaminates that a simple wash won't, nor cleaner wax for that matter, it basically makes the surface pure/clean and after waxing, the results are unbelievable! Good luck and be sure to use lots of lube, not soap and water but an actual lube supplied with the kit or a quick detailer, don't let it dry out!

Actually, polish would do a lot for a black vehicle and not so much on a lighter color. Black is the hardest to keep clean.

When I did my full detail, I washed the truck with the 2 bucket system, then I clayed the truck, then I used a paint cleaner, then I waxed. I didn't polish because I didn't think the paint was in that bad of a condition.

Also another good site for information is Meguiar's forum, www.meguiarsonline.com good people, good advice, good products.

 If polish "does not do too much" for you, you're doing it wrong. Especially on black.

Definitely check out Meguiar's online, Autopia, and DetailCity... all three are excellent forums that you can learn a lot from and get some excellent advice both from hobbyists and professionals like myself.

Personally I prefer Zaino products myself. No good detail job is complete without first clay-baring the vehicle.

+1 on Zaino. Lasts a good 6 months including winter.

Clay bar is a must do IMO prior to waxing/sealing.

You are going to get so much crap for chroming your entire truck!

You wash it hourly don't you?

I don't, no... that truck belongs to a customer of mine.

Even white can shine like that though.... no chroming required

I'll have to snap some better quality pics of my own truck once I get it cleaned back up again... I don't have any good ones uploaded right now (actually I haven't uploaded any of my newer pics in quite a while.... all these are a few years old).

Sometimes I wish I were Sal Zaino.... he doesn't have to pay for marketing one iota with all the forum fanboys that over-hype his products!

Detailing is 90% about prep work and proper technique, and 10% about product. Give me a can of old-school Turtle Wax and as long as I still have access to my polishers and polishes It'll out-shine a coat of Zaino on un-polished paint any day of the week!

I actually think I've read more people arguing the best way to strip the "10 part Zaino" products from a vehicle than people that actually use it. Though I've never heard 1 people say they didn't like it. But have never seen pictures of a Zaino detail.

The prep work really is the key. I spent 12-14 hours on my truck a few months ago getting the paint to look really good. My technique wasn't perfect as it was my first time, but the work I did made the truck look better than it ever had.

When I put on the polish...it seemed to kill the "shine". That is just my thoughts...

tho i know the Polish is designed to bring out the shine more...just for some reason I feel it does not...

the tech. is good...i follow the instructions...and all.

While prep work is DEFINITELY the key....you can absolutely call me a zaino fanboy. I've never used anything else since I was introduced to it 6 years ago. I don't use any of their products for prep work though. Just their sealants.
