Auto Dimming Side Mirror Upgrade 07+ Pu

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody has upgraded their standard side mirrors to a auto dimming mirror. I was thinking of getting a factory replacement mirror face and swaping it out and wiring it up.

Will it work?

I'm not sure what wiring it would take, but in the factory mirror the sensor is in the rear view mirror so you would have to replace that as well.

I see. My rear view dims out right now. I was thinking the side mirrors had their own sensor in them. Hmmmmm I wonder if there is an aftermarket kit?

In short, no. All new wiring and programming.

are there any aftermarket companies who make an auto dimming side mirror?

Grab you a set of NBS DL3 Mirrors with the Turn Signal in them....if your truck has Power Windows and Locks now...they will simply plug in and your Auto Dim will work....did this on a buddies truck already, works great!

The signals are the only thing you will gain in the swap. You pretty much cant add anything else w/o a lot of wiring and programming. If you have an LT/SLE trim level truck they are only wired for the signals. That is unless you get the package that comes with the DL3 mirrors. The new trucks are nothing like the GMT800's where you could simply plug and play with them.

You can go about it several ways. You can change the entire mirror out, which is expensive. It depends on what options your truck has if it will work right out of the box. Sometimes you need new drivers and/or passenger door modules to control them. You may already have modules that will work. If not, it would need programming to get the power folding/memory position thing to work.

You can just replace the glass, which is easy and it will work with some minor wiring. You can splice the wires under the dash for the signals. Also, since you already have a dimming mirror inside, you can run a wire or two (forget if its 1 or 2) to the mirror and it will control the dimming. It already has pins in the mirror to control the door mirror dimming!
