Service Engine Light

2500 HD 2001 Chevy 8.1 w Allison purchased new now 144,000 miles. This has been a great truck with no complaints other than the 11.5 mpg.

I drove through some deep water today as we had heavy rains. Probably a foot deep. The service engine light came on and then the limited power light came on so truck won't do more than 1,500 rpm.

I let it run at idle for 45 minutes to make sure it stayed warm for quite awhile after parking indoors but light will not go out. I am sure I have or had a wet connection some place but no idea where.

I do question since the code came on if it needs to be reset before it will run properly no matter what. I have no idea how to reset the code. Can I merely disconnect the battery as a friend told me or what is the proper process.

I appreciate any help I can get.

A code reader can clear it. Disconnecting the battery won't clear the code, but it can reset the computer, thus making the light turn off.
