lpe629 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I have a '09 Sierra 1500 SLE and I would like to install the factory trailer brake controller. I would need to buy the controller and the new dash panel that it fits in. Is it as simple as just plugging the wire harness into the controller? I've got a feeling it can't be that easy. What do you guys think? Anyone tried this?
pwall Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Based on the numerous others who have asked, no. This is one option that can not be added on afterwards....just way too many things that need to be changed.

This has been discussed several times and no one has been able to install a factory unit.
lpe629 Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 Thats what I sort of figured since all the wires are hangin there for an aftermarket controller....thanks guys
reidrhollander Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Does any one know the part number for the brake controller? i don't need a trailer brake but I would like to see if I can use it as a rheostat to control a proportional solenoid valve.

There will be far cheaper options out there than using an OEM GM product for that. And you will have all the documentation, the GM one, you won't have schematics for what's in the box, just the pin out.
camaroluver Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 i have a aftermarket one in my truck works great very easy to install there are wires up under the dash right below the steering colum i think it is 4 wires taped in a bundle and there is 1 wire under the hood that needs to be hooked up to the battery

You might be right but I am kind of obsessed with making switches for accessories that look like they were there from the factory. I found the part number finally. $18 for the switch and $25 for the knee bolster. This converted switch is going to be for a solenoid valve driving some Nathan air chimes. Here is a switch that I made for my off road lights. It is kind of fun for me to rework the PC boards to do what I want. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5055...mp;id=711138851
jblakeney Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 I don't think it can be added. After the truck leaves the factory. Tekonsha is probably the best in the aftermarket!! P3 is the best one I have found. Jbo
