07 And Newer Head Light Removal

Is there a simple way to remove the head lights on these new GMC trucks that I have overlooked? I started to pull them this past weekend to convert over to HID and it looks as if I need to pull off some upper bumper / grill trim to get them out (as well as the upper radiator cover). This really isn’t that big of a deal, but I figured I’d ask first. I’m a little disappointed as my 05 was pretty slick. All I had to do was pull a pin and swing the lights out. Five minutes and I was done.

As yes, I need to physically pull the head lights out to swap the bulbs. There just isn’t enough room to get my hands on the bulb retainers to swap them out.

You can pull the aircleaner box and get better access if you haven't done that already.

I just did this on my '05...they're probably different than yours but I found an allen wrench looking bar on each one and when removed the whole headlight assy came out easily.

Yeah, they're different than the 07-09 GMT900. My old 99 GMC has the two rods like you mentioned. It's a snap to remove the assembly. On my 08 you have to do quite a bit of work to remove the assembly.

Bummer....I thought the way they were mounted on mine was quite a good idea.

Ya, it was a great idea. I'm finding many of those great ideas on the earlier generation GMC's have been eliminated on the 07+ trucks.

So by the responces to date, my initial assessment was correct and I need to remove the upper bumper cover. What a pain in the rear..... All that just to change a dam bulb.
