Rpm Drops And Then Stall At Stop Lights

This is for a friend's 2002 Escalade.

 

Whenever he slows down or stops the truck's idle drops very low or it stalls.

 

Suggestions?

actually that happen to me in my 1999 Tahoe I just got rid of. My problem was a broken ground strap. except when my rpm dropped and it stalled it wouldnt start again. just a long shot but maybe its a bad ground.

I had a similar problem a while back in my Tahoe. When I was at a stop and the a/c cycled on, the drag would cause it to almost stall. It was only idling at about 400 RPM so I had the injectors cleaned and it fixed the problem. It isles at about 600 RPM now and no engine drag when the compressor cycles on and off.

Check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor).

This was my guess. I'll look into it.

My truck did that when my intake manifold gasket was leaking. Any trouble codes?

Does it sometimes just idle very low or does it flat out die almost everytime?

Try shifting the truck to neutral as you slow down to a stop. If it doesn't falter or stall with this, then I would suspect the transmission is the culprit. Maybe the torque converter?
