Started doing it for an hour and then wouldnt do again for weeks. However its now doing it everyday. Battery cables are tight. thanks for any advice

On what vehicle? GM has issued a recall/ TSB for "04 - "05 instrument clusters. Unlimited miles.....You will have to push your dealer to get it. There are lots of links on this site.

TSB was for '03-05 models. Vehicles with under 70k replacement is free of charge. 70,001 to 80,000 GM pays for the cluster customer pays for labor.

Something I always do whenever I have a screwy electrical problem, is to remove and clean the battery connections. Also check all the vehicle grounds I can find under the hood.

You might check the instrument panel connections as well. You'll need to open the dash up.

We just had our repaired. We own a 2004 GMC. Dealership wanted $500 plus. We took it out and sent it away for under $200. It took less than a week and now it runs great and matches up with our GPS.

plugged in a new cluster with no luck! anybody?

Bad battery, dirty grounds, alternator starting to pack it in are the 3 most common.

Also check the connections on the BCM, but its more than likely a grounding issue.

A week ago on a trip to Florida, my Oil pressure and Battery Condition dash gauges on my 2004 2500 HD 4x4 went out - just these two gauges only. There has been no other abnormial indication, etc. On the return of this same trip, just the Oil Pressure gauge begain to work a little but only every now and then but mostly it was dead. (What I mean by "dead" is the needle on both gauges would slowly swing to the right - clockwise - and point at the approx. 5 o'clock position) The Battery Gauge has not worked since the first occurance. The start of this trip was half way of 330 miles. The truck was driven approx. 300 miles while in Florida and the return trip was also another 330 miles. So my truck's gauge is simlar to these postings but a little different.

Question: Does anyone know the Recall Number? I couldn't seem to get a search "Hit" on this recall notice.

The "recall" is UNLIMITED MILEAGE for FREE... It is not really a recall. My 04 Sierra 1500 Crew Z71 had 194000 and my brothers 04 Sierra DMAX had 176000, both vehicles got new clusters. Did not cost us a cent. It took a lot of pressure to get them to do it. If you pay anything for this repair, you can also claim back to GM, although you may only get what a warrenty would cover. There is a ton of info on the net about this, GM won a huge lawsuit with the stepper motor supplier and was compensated in order to satisfy their customers. If you pay anything, you are getting screwed. That TSB quoted is old news.Subject: 07187C -- SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER GAUGE NEEDLE FUNCTION. They have to cover regardless of mileage

Also see TSB 07187A

Remember, at the beginning of my reply,

It took a lot of pressure to get them to do it
