Rear Differential Size

I'm getting together parts to replace the moth-eaten rear brake backing plates on my 2002 Yukon 4WD. Looking in my manual I figure I probably need to know if I have a 8.6. 9.5, or other size rear in order to order the right axle seals, gaskets, etc. Is there a way I can tell? Rear is 3.73 LS.

On another note, I've noticed my factory trailer hitch is peeling rust layers like crazy. I'm planning to take it off, sandblast it, and repaint, but at what point has it lost structural integrity? Anyone experience this problem?

Thanks

It should have a 10 bolt 8.5/8.6 inch rear. You can count the bolts on the cover. You'll need to do this anyway for your new gasket.

Just replace the hitch. GM factory hitches are an absolute joke when they are in good shape.

Thanks, I feel foolish walking up the parts counter when I'm not sure what I've got.

I can't believe the layers of rust coming off of the hitch tube along with the paint. Would you happen to know if there is a quality aftermarket hitch that uses the same bolt pattern as the factory? Sure hate drilling 1/2 inch holes in the frame while laying on my back.
