Changing Steering Wheel And Off Center

I just bought a 2007 Classic Silverado with about 35,000 miles on it and took it to the dealer shortly after for a once-over and a wheel alignment as I intend to put some nice aftermarket wheels and tires on it.

 

I installed a new clockspring to the BCM and steering wheel with controls and took it back to the dealer to enable the UK3 RPO code and now the steering wheel controls the instrument cluster and radio just fine.

 

Driving I now notice that the steering wheel now has to be at the 1:00 position to stay on the road at higher speeds but there is no pull. As it has been less than 90 days since my wheel alignment, I took it back to the dealer to fix the "crooked wheel syndrome". They fixed it and want to charge me because I changed the steering wheel to one that has steering wheel controls and any time you change a steering wheel you need to need to readjust the toe.

 

As the spline only lets you put the steering wheel on 1 way, is it even possible that installing a GM steering wheel with controls would cause the crooked wheel syndrome? I am thinking this was caused by the technician not being careful to completely centre the wheel during that wheel alignment but they are blaming the steering wheel change. Am I getting ripped off or is there even a slight possibility that what they say is true?

Sounds like the tech that did the alignment was trained to do it like they did from the factory, yard stick.

Talk to the manager; I think he's scamming you. If you have to, put the old steering wheel back on and see if there's any change. If not, show them. That should do it.
