Trans Slamms Into Gears

My truck is a 2000 silverado 4x4 3/4 ton with a 6.0 liter motor with 140,000 miles. For the last 9 months after I drive it on the highway It slamms into every gear. I took it ti the dealership and they say it is the torque converter but it is not necessary to have it changed now it can wait. I am looking for a second opinion and if it is in need of a torque converter what type / brand and stall speed should I get. I do all types of driving and pulling trailers ect.

Thank you,

... most likely trouble with a worn shift solenoid, and the transmission is compensating by increasing the operating pressure inside the transmission... causing the hard shifts...

... not sure which transmission you have, but if it was the 4L60E (like mine) I would not leave it slamming into gear all the time... I understand the 4L80E is a tougher transmission, but still, I am not sure of the wisdom of letting it go....

... if you are the "drive it till it dies" type .... ok.... but if you need this as a reliable vehicle, then I would be afraid that it will crap out some day at some really inconvenient location...

... if it is only the shift solenoid and no other damage has developed, then the repair is not tooo expensive....

... if it is the torque converter, be prepared for a $3,000 total rebuild of the TC and all the clutch parts

its not the torque converter,

it has gone to max line pressure because of a problem electrically and has to be diag'd by a shop that has a real scanner ,not some knuckle head that gave you that diagnoses,if your keepin the truck, replace the old POS tranny with a GM rebuilt unit that carries a nice 3yr warranty

my 2 cents

I assume that is the cost of a complete trans rebuild??

you would think that eh?,me to ,

Thanks for the advice, there is another dealership about 25/30 miles from me so I will give them a try in a few weeks. I can wait since the truck is not driven everyday.
