2 Way Advanced Remote

Does anyone have one of these and are they worth the $.

Would like to know what range they give you over hte factory remote.

There was some discussion about those here, and I remember the general consensus was that they were a waste of money. I have no experience.

It seems that most of the threads about the extended range remote seem almost divided....some people get great results with them, others dont.

I have one. The range sucks. If you expected to work like some of the Viper, you are going to be disappointed. For me I just want to start the truck inside my house in the winter time. Here is the thread:

I had my unit for about 2 months and it works great for me. All the special functions are great. I would not even consider an after market unit compared to this one. I had two after market units on my other trucks and they are not the same as this unit. This unit is alot more than a remote start.

But,

The range is only about 500-600 feet. This may be a problem for some but for me it is not an issue. So I guess it comes down to what you are looking for in a remote.

Not sure which unit your talking about but ...

I have a compustar unit... Up to 3000 feet range.. alerts me if door opens / shock sensor goes off , alarm goes off , vehicle starts / time left / , and its all on a lcd remote . It even tells you the temp of the inside of vehicle.. (very helpful in winter to see if its warm enough to venture outside :P ) Plus tells you your batt voltage ...

I upgraded mine too quite a bit... I have a pizo siren on inside that is an ear piercing sound which is tough to even stand by outside of vehicle when going off.... I have a proximity sensor installed , so besides the standard shock sensor, if someone gets to close to the glass and looks in, it senses you and will beep siren , and alert remote... does it up to 3 times, and if you are still in its comfort zone, alarm sounds... and my 3rd upgrade is a batt backup siren... If someone does break in, and manages to find the brain of system and cut wires , or even pops hood and clips battery, the backup batt siren senses this and starts getting loud :D And that this is like a very solid softball.... only way to stop it is rid it out and try and smash its softball like shell  or use the key ....

4th upgrade i had my shop do was hook up the factory horn.. so when alarm sounds, the pizo goes off , siren , and factory horn :D

In all i love the thing, and wish i had it sooner...

Heres yet another extra i added on to the system which i only use during day... I dont want this going off at night my mistake ...

Its a set of psychoblasters air horns.... and it is absolutely crazy.... When the alarm sounds with this it has 4 things.... Siren / pizo siren / factory horn/ and air horns.... But you really cant hear the other 3 over air horns.... heres a vid

I was gonna hook up the train horns to it, but i didnt want those goign off by mistake and giving heart attacks

That sounds like a really, really good unit. That's a little more than a remote start. What brand is it? How much for that type of system?

Well its a remote start +... lol

Initial price of unit with install is $450 -500 The place i went to hooked me up... But then from there , the extras add up quick... mainly the 2 most priceyt are proximity sensor and backup batt...

But i feel so much more at ease now that i have it, and i love messing with people who are to close to it by giving em a honk...

It is a compustar brand...

I have a Clifford that does the same as above (except I'm not sure about batt voltage) that is a 1 mile range and it is awesome. I had the factory remote start and it sucks to say the least. That is unless all you want to do is stand by your window to make sure it started right outside your house. I almost got the advanced remote until I read many times that the range was subpar on it also. One of the great things about the lcd remote is you always know it started. In town the only test I've done is to park as far away as possile at Walmart and then go to the very back of the store, started no problem. The only other time I've tested the range was duck hunting when I had to unlock my truck for a friend to get some shells out, about 1/2 mile away. I could hear it chirping while on the phone with him.

If you are never going to need to start it very far away then GM's will probably do you fine. If like me you have to park several blocks away generally, you might want to look for one with better range. JMHO

I had a custom truck shop put an extension kit on my truck. It is not the GM kit, but a different brand. I don’t recall which. The range isn’t spectacular, but enough for me. I can start the truck from inside many buildings just fine. It’ll start it about two blocks away. The sensor is mounted on the windshield. If interested, I can dig out the manual and note the brand.

I just had one of these installed yesterday. So far I am very disappointed. They do have some cool features but the range sucks. When I ordered it from the dealer I specified my need for a long range remote start. I should have researched more before pulling the trigger. It is more advanced than the basic factory set up but in no way is it a long range unit. I regret the purchase.
