Long Trip Experience

I drove my truck about 2,100 miles in just over 3 days this week. No problems, the truck ran great, no vibration, squeaks, or odd noises. The only thing that happened was that the the driver's side outside mirror would occasionally shake a bit (just the glass inside the housing, not the whole mirror) on certain road surfaces. Is there any way to eliminate this? I mounted my bug deflector for this trip and I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Other than that, the truck behaved great, it occasionally downshifted to 3rd gear going up long grades through north Virginia and West Virginia to maintain the cruising speed. I cruised at about 75 MPH most of the way and the RPMs in top gear were about 2,200. With the truck in 3rd gear, the RPMs climbed to about 3,000. This with 3.73 axle gearing.

Wheeling, West Virginia.

I noted that some guys were complaining about their trucks downshifting too much and too early on grades. I did not find that to be the case with mine so I decided to mention it. First time I took this truck out of Florida.

Just made that trip last week, great time of year to travel WV turnpike. Ever since I mounted by bug deflector I have experienced some odd noise coming from the antennae area? I have learned to live with it, nothing from the sideview mirror though

Did you visit the Casino/Racetrack,or Cabela's while you were there?

I have no complaints with my truck downshifting (especially since Justin tuned it!)

PM sent.

Note: Of course your truck does not downshift often. You have the 6.0 V Max and the same gearing as mine. Plus you have a custom tune. Mine is just a stock 5.3 with more weight on top as it is a crew cab. But I am still quite pleased with the truck's performance in the mountains.

There is a TSB on the vibrating drivers mirror. First thing to do is cycle your folding mirror switch once if you have them then you will need to re-torque the nuts behind the mirror if the folding didnt work. Your dealer should do it for free even out of warranty.

I don't know if your trip took you on WV Route 55 ("Corridor H") but that is one of the most beautiful highways around right now (just built it within the past 5-7 years or so). Cuts right through the mountains, no ugly development yet.

Yes, I have power folding mirrors, I will try this trick first. How do you access the nuts behind the mirror? By moving the mirror glass to its extreme position up and down and sideways?

No, took I 77 from Virginia into Beckley WV , then route 19 which runs into I 79, then continued north on I 79. I did not have much time to take scenic routes.

Ahh...You went through the speed trap capital of the world.....Summersville,WV.! They will give you ticket for going 1 mph over the speed limit  Just ask my Aunt

Lucky me, I did not get a speeding ticket, did not even come close. Actually, I was surprised that I did not see too many speed traps during the entire trip. I did not even use my radar detector.

Getting a ticket for going 1 MPH over the speed limit is ridiculous, and most likely can be successfully challenged in any traffic court. But if you are out of state, it may be a lot cheaper just to pay the fine.

Probably AFM.

That acronym is not in my truck's vocabulary.

Check under the rear seat. I snuck some in when you weren't looking. :)
