just curious on what is too much for the motor and tranny on a 5.3/half ton tranny...i know these trannys don't take abuse well and i'm tryin to make mine stretch, i'm assuming 2000 rpms and below are fine for the combo?

I regularly have my 5.3 at around 3500-4000 rpm when towing on large hills or mountains. You do not even get into the good part of the powerband on these gasoline engines at 2000 rpm.

I also stay in 3 towing, so I am running around 2800 rpm at 60 mph. At that rpm you are in the powerband enough that you stay the same speed on smaller hills. Tranny stays nice and cool (under 200 all the time). I do have the HD tow package with cooler.

I got 100,000 miles warranty on the tranny, so if it goes, it is GM's problem.

These trucks like to rev. Some people set the RPM limters at 6200 rpms... personally I wouldn't like it over 6,000. With that said, your not even into the power band at 2000 rpm. You need to be about 3500-4500 rpm to really feel the power.

Don't be afraid to rev the motor. :dunno:
