Can 2004 Factory Cd Play Mp3 Cd's?

I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Z71 with the non-Lux Bose system, including the in-dash 6-cd player. Does anyone know if it is supposed to be able to play MP3's from a data CDR? I've tried several burning approaches, but it rejects them all.

Unless it says MP3 on the deck...It can't.

  I have the same running boards on my truck and I do agree they are bulky. I also find myself stepping over them when getting in and out of the truck. Besides providing protection to the rocker panels, they aren't very useful. I will be replacing them soon with the Amp Powersteps.
