Kumho Mohave At Kl-63

I called my local Discount Tire inquiring about new tires for my Avalanche. I explained what I needed in a tire and they recommended the Kumho Mohave AT. Not too aggressive, good wet and dry traction, quiet on the road, 50,000 mile treadlife warranty.

Has anyone heard of these tires and/or used them? I haven't found much in the way of information and/or reviews. They made them sound pretty good on the phone but I know how that can be. I've made an appointment for Wednesday and have to choose what I want by then. If you have any thing to say about them good or bad, please let me know before then.

I would be careful.... there has been a recall of this tire......... from the release, it sounds like it could be a tread separation issue????????

I'm not saying that all Kumho tires are bad... I have had a set on one of my cars for years and was happy with them....... but,...

It looks like they have only recalled three sizes of LT 16" tires. The ones I am looking at are P-metric and are 265/70R17. Should I be OK or should I look at something else?

Any recommendations?

I had a set of Kumho A/T tires about 4-5 yrs ago I bought from Tire Rack for my 99 2500. They were load range E tires. As soon as I got them it was obvious there was a design problem with the tires. Just as described in the summary and consequence of the post above, they had no stability. You could turn the wheel on the freeway and it felt like you were driving in 12" of mud. Changing lanes quickly would get you some wobbles you thought were going to result in a crash. Driving at 55 mph was a white knuckle experience. 70 mph was like Russian Roulette with 5 bullets in a 6 shooter.

I bitched it to Tire Rack and eventually they caved in and took them back. But they charged me in the neighborhood of $250 for all the BS and shipping. I didn't care, I wouldn't have kept them even if I couldn't get a nickel of my money back. I'll never buy another Kumho tire even for friggin wheelbarrow. Tire Rack isn't on my list of responsible businesses either.

The tires I had were the Kumho Road Venture KL78 265-75/16 load range E.

B.J. ... look at a set of TOYO OPEN COUNTRY AT ... you will not be disappointed... and Chuck who commented above on his old Kumho experience will agree with this TOYO recommendation

chuck... interesting comments on the Kumho.... when I bought my 8-ply LT TOYO's my tire guy gave me the choice of the TOYO OPEN COUNTRY AT and the Kumho Road Venture KL78... I am happy with my choice of the TOYO's

Nitto Terra Grappler AT - $141

Cooper Discoverer ATR - $159

Pirelli Scorpoin ATR - $168

Hankook DynaPro ATM - $164

Kumho Mohave AT - $152

I had a set of Nitto TGs on a previous vehicle and only got 35,000 miles out of them. Granted that was on a torsion bar cranked 4-wheel drive truck but still 35k is pathetic. The Toyo Open Country AT is basically the same tire but it is not currently available in my area (would have to be special order). I would love to get a set of Cooper Zeon LTZs but they only come in a load range E tire for my size and as such quite expensive. I'm not a big fan of Bridgestone, Firestone, or Goodyear. And BFGoodrich All-Terrains and Michelin LTX ATs are beyond my price range.

Based on the above, what would be recommended. Any of the above? None of the above? Anything I have left out?

I'd go Cooper Disco ATR. I know alot of people who've had them and love them + get good mileage out of them.

I know I just said that I'm not a Bridgestone fan, however I just stumbled across a buy 3 get 1 free deal through Firestone that applies to the Bridgestone A/T Revo 2. This makes them the lowest priced tire on my list. They have 5 stars according to the reviews I read on Discount Tires website.

$169.99, buy 3 get 1 free = $127.49 each.

Would these be a good tire?

... some people say the BS Revos are a good tire.... but then some say Kumho Mohave's are a good tire too!

... it seems like a crap shoot, but MY OPINION is that I might run a Kumho tire on my truck (or any other brand...) BEFORE I ever ran a Firestone or Bridgestone tire

... personnally, I would order the TOYO's, but then I am biased from my current good experience with these... price on the TOYO's should be within 10 or 20 bucks of the Nitto's

... alternatively if you want to stick to local stock, I would go with the Nitto's... looks like you have a pretty good price on those ... watch your wheel alignment and your front suspension and you should get good long service out of them..

I had Bridgestone Dueller A/T's (pre-Revo) as stock tires on my truck. I actually thought they were a pretty good tire and were much more stable towing then two sets of Goodyear's I've had.

General Grabber AT2's.... they look just like the BF Goodrich All-terrain TA KO's

I am getting the Hankook DynaPro ATM's 265/70/17 for $127/ea shop around, and see if you can get a better deal.

Are these P-metric or LT tires?

Well, I decided on the Cooper Discoverer ATR. Had them installed today at lunch. Hopefully they turn out ok. So far, so good. Little noisier than the stock Badyear's but smoother and I can definately tell there is more tread there.
