Hp Question

I have had my scangauge II hooked up for about 6 months now. I have made the minor adjustments when I fill up and have found that it is pretty close to very accurate. I have noticed a few times now that when I really get on the gas, such as a onramp that I am showing 364hp at the high end of 2nd gear! So is the factory rating of 325hp a understatement? or is somthing causing my scangauge to be off? I though the days of under-rating hp was over!

I have no mods other then a change I made by cutting a section out of the stock air box when I saw the golf ball size hole my engine was suppose to suck air through. I did this before having the scangauge so I dont have a before and after number to compare to.

Factory rating is 315hp at the flywheel for the 5.3

I think your scan gauge is reading wrong?

That scangauge can't give you an accurate depiction of HP/TQ your truck is putting down... it can only estimate it based on a few parameters it can pull from the ECM/TCM. If you want to know an accurate number, you'd have to get the truck dyno tested.

ok, got another question. How can I find out where my engine was built? there should be 3 build locations, Canada, US, and Mexico.

Engine and vehicle assembly facilities aren't necessarily the same. Someone with GMVIS access can pull up where the engine was assembled under the vehicle component page. It shows that mine came from Romulus, Michigan.
