I have an 01 chevy express cargo van i picked up real cheap it has a 5.7 and a 4l80e the mileage is almost 180,000.I just changed the fluid and filter, seems no better no worse. ive had a bunch of trucks with the 4l80e and never had any problem but never with this many miles,

So im looking to see what you guys recomend for an additive to maybe firm shifts up and just make it a little tighter. feel better. thanks

I would not recommend putting an additive in the transmission. As for the shifts I would say enjoy it and hopefully it will last a long time.

why add something now. Let it be and enjoy your lucky transmission.

The 4L80E as long as it hasn't got to hot will last a long time. I had 365,000 on my first tranny in my last dually. Sold that truck with 567,000 on it. It was a 4L80E and it seen alot of heavy towing. The only thing your 4l80E will like is if you add a bigger transmission cooler on it. The small one from the factory is ok at best. As it ages make it run cooler. If you want to run an additive in it put the Lucas Transmission treatment in it. That will help with sticky valves etc. No you don't have to drop some fluid out to add it. I am sure I will get flack about that from other posters but I have used it in the past with good result. As long as there wasn't any metal in the pan you should be okay. Just my opinion.

I used Lucas in an old Ford explorer that was slipping a little....it seemed to help the shifts and slipping in 2nd was all but eliminated....I ran it about 8-10,0000 before I sold it.

I don't think GM makes a bigger cooler....I asked about one for my truck, and the dealer said there is nothing available....so it is back to the fabricating table...ha
