I am lookin about purchasing a 2008 silverado but it was a previous water damage truck. The truck didnt have any water in the oil or transmission but the fluids was flushed and changed. However the switch or none of the electronic work or the engine doesnt start. I was wondering if any of yall know wat could be wrong with it? Or wat would it need to get it fixed? id greatly appreciate any info?

Thanks

michael

Unless this thing was gonna be dang near free... I think I'd pass. So so much could be wrong with it and cost alot of money diagnosing it. Even then, you could have ongoing corrosion and more issues.

Unless you are a mechanic yourself or are prepared to have a vehicle nickle and dime you to death, you do NOT want to purchase a salvage titled vehicle or any vehicle that has been repaired after that amount of damage being done to it.

We had a 2004 box truck that was water damaged. We kept it in the fleet, since the dealership was able to do whatever service they needed.

Now the thing barely runs. It has the hardest time turning over.... the truck idles like crap... the gauges don't work (they worked fine for a while after the damage). Anything electrical is shot...

Not worth the risk.... Maybe if it was a wrangler (which is better suited for water crossings).... But I think the Silverados today are much more sensitive....

Modern vehicles rely on computer control for everything. The GMLAN system is critical to operation. Water corrosion and shorts = very bad.

its not a boat, should not be in the water unless its a toy in the mud! I am with everyone else, say away from anything with water damage. You could be chasing electrical problems forever. I am not going to say that it couldnt be something simple and the truck is worth it but the risk is much higher then the reward in this case unless you plan on doing some work and this being a 100% project with a lot of new parts and mods coming. Unless you are after a frame and cab I would not bother! jm2c

It also is important what KIND of water it was in. Fresh water, you could fix if it is really cheap. Salt water, they would have to pay ME to take it from them....

Or if they paid you to take it.

I'd be moving on, if I were you.......
