Underside Body Protection?

ive been talking to my buddy that does body work. i was asking him what could i put on the underside body where all the nooks and crannies where all the salt, dirt sits. i bought this truck and its not leaving my ownership untill i can watch the road go by (by my feet) when im driving it.

 

he was telling me to get a couple cans of interior body pannel spray made by 3m, you know that guie stuff that feels like half way dried up glue and it looks like bees wax. he was telling me he does that to his cars and trucks where the commin rust areas accure..

 

i was thinking about putting it around all the wheel lips on the inside as far as i could go, cab corners, rockers and the lower areas of the bed sides, bed tubing and so on.

 

what are your thoughts?

 

do the undercoating ppl get in all these little places?

 

i will remove all the plastic in the wheel wells to get in there and might even mask off just a little bit where the paint is seen on the lip.

 

i just want to make this sucker last as long as i can. gm, ford or dodge hasnt figured it out yet, but if they did they wouldnt sell new ones every year.

i thought someone would chime in on this.

 

i for one dont want to end up driving a rust bucket after 10 years or so. you see the old chevys with no wheel well lip, cab corners and rockers falling off.

 

also heard the sem makes this stuff.

 

they look good now, but prevention today will help down the road!!!

 

when i was under it last weekend, there are tons of holes where inner to outter skins come together on the cab area. tons of pockets for dirt, mud and salt to sit and do there majic to your 30+k trucks. its bad enough that you can buy a 2 year old one for half the cost of a new one, how much do you think youll get of its rusted.

i seen you sprayed that one stuff. it might work but if you can put it on the painted outside surface you wouldnt think it would do to much underneath.

If your refering to the other thread yes they do get every nook and cranny depenading on who you go to to get it sprayed. i had my truck done took the guy almost 2 hours. Plus if you get it on the ouside of you paint it doesnt harm it and it stays on the underside of the body for a fairly long time, even longer than the winter.

I just had mine done. Called RUST COP. He had a long rod sprayer and did inside tailgate and inside doors and then with 150PSI sprayer did the underside and engine bay, behind the bumpers, took out tail lights and sprayer inside those panels. Door lock, door jams and all moveable cables etc. I couldn t see the whole truck while he was working so chances are he did even more than what I saw. Took him about an hour. $90 cash.

Yeah you are absouletely right..you should take care of your vehicle to increase the life of your vehicle...if you pay attention everytime you have to pay less on it
