Abs And Wheel Speed Sensor

I'm having issues again with my '02. ABS kicks on when stopping @ ~5 mph. Had the same issue before, but I needed new bearing/hub assemblies anyway so I just replaced them and the problem went away. It's back again, so I took the sensors out and cleaned/greased them, but it actually made it worse. Check Engine light has come on and turned off twice over the last week (currently off).

So my questions:

If I have a diagnostic scan, will it tell me which sensor is bad so I can just replace that? I assume the check engine light will have to be on to get a read?

Can someone provide more detail with testing the voltage of the sensorst? How exactly do I hook it up the meter and get a read while spinning the wheel?

A scan should tell you which sensor is suspect,even though the SES light is off there should be a stored code.Even my old '95 Burb with the OBDI system was able to tell me which sensor was bad.On my Burb there is a seperate light for the ABS(not sure about yours),but it told me which sensor to replace(I've replaced both front sensors)

thanks for the reply. I had the local autoparts store scan if for me, but nothing came up with regards to the wheel senors, just a lean condition from the O2's.

Can someone explain exactly how to test the sensor with a volt meter?

had same prob with mine, ende up having to replace both sensors front left / right.... works great now.

You need to take it some where they have the capabilities to check ABS codes... A Code Reader will not check ABS....... Most places that read codes and tell you what you need DO NOT have the tool to tell you about abs. If your ABS light is on you have a code stored. It is possible it could be the module.... If your around laurel, ms I can scan it for you and tell you. Edgewise get it scanned and post your code it would help us to know whats up.....

I have had the same issue with my 2003 suburban. I just pulled the ABS fuse. breaks work great, but no ABS.
