Tire Pressure Warnings On 2009 1500 Models.

What exactly happens if all the TPMS sensors are removed from a 1500 or the batteries die? It obviously has the warning light on the dash that would illuminate but does a message also flash in the DIC and are there any chimes? Which ones would be permanant? Would the truck chime and display DIC messages every time it was started?

I have heard that if aftermarket wheels are installed the warnings cease after a while and the computer gives up trying to warn you about tire pressures other than the dash light. Is that true? I guess the question is one day when I finally have to get new tires if I have regular valve stems installed what will I be looking forward to?

FWIW I understand the safety aspects and the government mandates.

They aren't that expensive... and ebays a great place to pick up a second set. But with that said, you won't get any chimes.. but the warning light will eventually quit from what I've heard, but the DIC will always report a problem. You'll have to hit the button to make it go away EVERY time you get in the truck

Just not worth it to me.. I'd just get a set of sensors.

Thanks for the quick reply. I know you can get more rather inexpensively but I was simply interested in what the effects would be if you just ignored the system.

My TPMS went haywire a while back from running non stock 50

psi instead of the required 50/70 in my stock LT Deathstones.

(Untill my bud at the dealer reprogrammed them to 50 on all 4).

I had both a TPMS warning light a SES light and a warning message

on my DIC display for weeks untill I could get it to the dealer to be

reset with the Tech2.

I can only assume if you don't use the sensors with new wheels

or tires your result will be the same.

I picked-up a set of slightly used 265-70-17's without TPMS sensors to run on my 2009 Sierra for the winter. The results of running non-TPMS on yur truck is that the "info center" will always default to a "Check TPMS" message at start-up. To get that message to go away and get back to the standard "info menu", just hit the "check" button on the DIC cluster. Your amber "Tire Pressure" warning light will flash for a minute or so and then go to a steady lit condition and stay that way. You cannot make that light go away. So in the end ...if you don't install theTPMS sensors, you will drive around with a steady lit light for "tire preassue" on.

Obviously, the best thing to do is just get the TPMS sensors installed.

But sometimes, you just can't install them. What then? :)

No TPMS

I actually have a way for those of you that do not want to fool with them. Make a chamber out of PVC pipe, drill 4 holes in the sides, mount your stock TPMS monitors in it. Pump it up to 40 PSI. Then just throw it back in the bed. No more TPMS warning with your aftermarket tires.

One note. Be SURE your truck has "learned" the monitors, since this would be impossible to do after they are all mounted in the PVC.
