Can Factory Remote Start Be Installed Later?

Recommended Posts

Can it be done?

How much work is involved?

Would it be cost effective?

Better than regular after market systems?

Would it just be better to get a typical after-market remote start installed?

Yes if your truck is equipped with the remote start prep pkg (cant remember offhand what the RPO code is)

Just buy the remotes and have the dealer activate them

OH??? This sounds intriguing!

Yes sir, I had it done earlier this year and I have an 07 LT. Took it to the stealership (they ordered the kit a couple of days earlier of course) and after a few hours it was done. Came out to around $300 (Install kit with two fobs and labor) but I think it was worth it to have OEM system.

I have the factory remote start and am very disappointed with it. The range sucks. I would go with a good after market one.

That's odd to hear that. My mom's 05 Grand Prix has absolutely fantastic range.

So yours didn't have the package that was mentioned above and you had to start from scratch basically?

The RPO code is AP8

Ok. So according to the label in my glovebox I have a code AP8 there so it sounds as though I have the remote start package.

So all I have to do is buy the remotes for the remote start? Have the dealer program them? ...and I have remote start? This sounds too easy.

Does anybody have the Part Numbers I'd need?

You would have to ask the dealer as far as instal, but I have brand new in the sealed box, the GM Advanced remote start i'd let go. I was going to upgrade my standard remote start, but I do not think I will be keeping it after my lease is due, so I never installed it. http://www.gmaccessorieszone.com/Chevrolet...i1%5Btype%5D=gm

You have to buy the remote start kit. You can not just buy new key remotes. The dealer gets a number they call in for each remote start that's why you have to buy the kit and the dealer has to install it. The kit is around $150.

I had my dealer order the part and install for $200 so make sure you negotiate. If they really want your business they will work with you.

Right now I am the remote start for my wife in the morning and would like to get that for her as extra X-mas bonus.

So you have to buy the remotes and then the dealer programs it? Or do they have to install something else? Nice looking truck Matt. BTW
