Looking To Put A Remote Start In...

Ok as the title states I am considering putting a remote start in my pickup. I have a question on it before I do. I have a Diablo tune in it and I was wondering if it is going to cause any issues with it whenever they reprogram for the remote start?(I know that I would need to remove the program prior to them doing this) I guess mainly I am wondering if there will be any issues when I go to put it back in. Also about how much will I be looking at to have this done? It is a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500.

Also I want to thank you guys for some advice a good while back. I added a DIC to my truck and it went off without a hitch! That was way too easy!

Why would you need to remove the program? are you looking to have the dealer do the install or an aftermarket install?

If it is an aftermarket install, all they would need to have access is to the ignition wires and door lock wires.

CHECK for code AP8 in your glove box. If you have it you can add factory remote start. Part number for the kit is 17801236. Comes with 2 remotes and the special code to permanently add this feature to your programming. Also has new glove box label changing AP8 to AP3. Dont be fooled into buying just remotes - dealer may not activate w/o code because if they do, and you get reflashed later, the remote start will drop off. Put the factory program back in just to be safe.

I saw AE7, AJ1, AI0, AT8, AU3, AU0, AM1, A31, A68, but not AP8. :'( So what are my options with that in mind?

You may check again.....I don't think I have seen one without it. If you don't have it, then you need to look at aftermarket.

Ok I didn't go look again, but I had my dealer run my vin and he said I could get it. The problem is he said that GM is locking them out of programming for the regular remotes. He said the only way they can do it is get a 2-way advanced remote kit and do it that way.(He said that these came with the codes needed) He quoted me $451 including tax and installation. A little steeper than I anticipated, but I can work with it.

So any thoughts on this?

Also he told me that it would only come with 1 remote. Will it be possible for me to use my old remotes still?(For those pesky cases where you accidentally lock your keys in the truck) I guess I could unlock it with the key, but who does that anymore? lol =p

I find that hard to believe, maybe they just want to stick you with the more expensive one. I had the impression that if you had remote key-less entrance than the remote start was just an upgrade above it, I may be wrong but that is what I was told when I did mine. I looked at both the advanced and regular remote start and couldn't justify $450 to $300 for a little screen with extra info on it.

Once you get remote start, the old fobs will be useless. Don't think you can have both programed to the same vehicle.

I know the people at this dealer pretty well. If he told me that I believe that he believes that. I just wanted to make sure that he was right to believe that. Which it wouldn't be too terrible to get the advanced one. I am not going to loose any sleep over it I just was curious if this is true or not. Which what he said is GM is trying to push you to get the more advanced one and honestly I don't doubt it. His exact words where GM was locking them out of the codes for them.

I agree sounds like they are trying to sell you the more expensive one.

I have been thinking about adding remote start too, but I have two sets of computers (one for blackbear) and I think they reflash the computer. So will I be able to use it with the Blackbear computers?

Would I be wrong thinking that this program is in the BCM and you wouldn't need to worry about your PCM on an install such as this?

Hello!

I just had the remote start installed on my 2009 Silverado extended cab 8' box. My old remotes still work to lock and unlock the doors.

Check this site out, there are several options for remotes that work with different AP codes.
