Toyo Open Country A/t

I am in need of new tires and I want something with decent bite and tread wear. I was going to go with the new Bridgestone Revo's but they can be a bit pricey. I was told that the Toyo's are a more than comparable alternative. Has anyone ever run these? I can't seem to find much information on them. I was also wondering if I could get away with running anything bigger. I have different wheels (Eagle) but the same size as stock tires right now. What is the largest I can go before rubbing?

I am currently running a stock 265-75-16 Goodyear Wrangle

... get the TOYO OPEN COUNTRY AT .. excellent tire at a reasonable price

... I recommend getting the LT series, the 265's come in either Load Range C, D or E...

... with LT's you get a far stronger and more stable sidewall in your tire

... ditch the Bridgestones

... the 265/75R16's are the original Z71 tire size for a 98 truck

... my preference is to stick to what the original stock tire sizes were, but I have seen people run 285s on these trucks...... in the TOYO's the 285/75R16's come in Load Range D.

In the LT265/75R16 size

Load Range C equivalent load capacity to an old 6-ply tire ---- 2470 lbs @ 50 psi max

Load Range D equivalent load capacity to an old 8-ply tire ---- 3000 lbs @ 65 psi max

Load Range E equivalent load capacity to an old 10-ply tire --- 3415 lbs @ 80 psi max

you won't ever likely run the tires at maximum pressure unless you have the truck loaded to it's maximum carrying capacity or with a heavy trailer on the back ... you are still limited by the axle capacity for load carrying, but the higher load range provides a stiffer and more stable tire for normal load operating conditions

Friend of mine runs them on his 07 and likes them...not sure how long they last...someone here running them can tell....here are some reviews:

Not sure of the price you are getting, but 'If' you are going to run the truck another 70m+ miles, you might consider Michelin

I get 100m easy out of the LT MS on my sub, running new AT2s on my new truck, they are a little softer so say 70m on them?

Let us know how it works out...

My Load Range E Toyo A/T's have a 2 ply sidewall. I bought them in 285-70/17 and they actually ride slightly better than the OEM "P" rated tires, even at a slightly higher pressure. I can only imagine that's due to the taller sidewall of the size increase I did.

When Rod mentions the related load ratings compared to those old 6, 8, and 10 ply tires, that refers to really, really old cotton ply tires that likely haven't been common in the US in over 4 decades or since the use of Nylon became common reinforcement. My first memory of tire construction dates to the mid '60s and the tires I remember were Nylon. I think Nylon was the material of choice until a few decades ago when Polyester became popular thru tires like the Goodyear Polyglas GT and almost all the other makers jumped on polyester shortly thereafter. I think polyester is still the mainstay of tire construction. But, I've seen a few Nylon tires around still.

I started this a while ago but have put off getting tires because I have had no money. Now I have a tax return check coming and no other plans for spending it.

I am looking for an aggressive tread A/T tire in a 10 ply. My cousin swears by BFG A/T KO's and from what I have seen they are a good tire. After doing more research, I am not too sure about the Toyo's or the Revo 2's. They seem like really civilized road tires but don't look like they have a very aggressive tread. I have also read that they both leave a bit to be desired in snow.

What are your thoughts? Also, what is the largest size tire I can run without have to modify the suspension or trimming wheel wells.

I am not too concerned with tred life because I am not sure how much longer I will have the truck. I want something that looks good.

The BFG's imo suck. they look great but they wear really uneven. I put them on my last truck, it never pulled or had a vibration, after 2000 miles on the tires it suddenly did! I was always getting them balanced, NEVER AGAIN.

look at the nitto terra's they are great price, and the down side is the wear, but if you are selling the truck within the next 30,000 miles i would not worry about it.

why are you specifically looking for a 10-ply tire for a 1500 series truck??? thats like putting a class IV hitch on a toyota camry, you'll never utilize the load capacity of those tires

I'm not worried about the load. I have always prefered a stiffer ride. I have 6 ply now and they just always feel spongy.
