I went to visit a friend in Canada a few months ago. The town I went to has a Wal-Mart and a Canadian Tire right across the street from each other.

yes... they do that very often... in just about every new store location ... especially the smaller cities around Western Canada

Canadian Tire does not sell woman clothing, underwear, pharmacy, food. And they do sell a better selection of tools, most of that hand tools if the Canadian Tire brand (Mastercraft) are lifetime warrantied, which you won't find at Walmart.

Their automotive section is a lot larger too.

Exactly! Walmart and Canadian Tire are practically in the same parking lot here. I go to Canadian Tire every time.

Canadian Tire, as already mentioned, has a fairly large tool and automotive section, hardware/electrical.

Although you can get items common to both stores, CT and Walmart have different focus.

Canadian Tire "Money" is given out for purchases paid for by cash or debit, based on the pre-tax total, excluding labour and shop supplies costs. Customers can use Canadian Tire Money to buy anything in the store.

There are a couple of bars where I live that take Canadian Tire money at par too.

Its like a Canadian religion...on the Saturday after pay day, you go grab a Tim Horton's coffee, and go to the store looking for sales...sometimes you get things on sale at 70% off that you have been looking at for months waiting for the sale to be right...sometimes you come out with another 100 piece screwdriver set...(I have 3 sets), but rarely do you leave Canadian Tire with nothing.

The Basic rule for Canadian Tire is though....unless you absolutely need it, you never pay full price. It will be on sale in a month or 2 for 50-70% off.
