5.3l Better With 4speed Or 6speed

Hello, Now here in Venezuela GM is selling the Silverado crew cab with the 6speed transmision, and also I believe is tiptronic type.

The bad news is they aren't selling the 4speed truck anymore and not offering the 6.2L.

My personal point of view, is that GM needed to update the way their old trans make the job done, because there are in the market any others suv or trucks, for example the 4runner 8cyl, with less HP (about 285 hp) and better works at transmision and they beat my 08 silverado 5.3L but with the 4speed transmision.

For example, here in venezuela theres no speed limits, so you go as you want, and there are SUVs 6cyl (toyota the most of them) that really, they do a great job while doing near or going away from the silverados)...

I belive the dead point of my 4spped transmission is when it shift to the 4gear, about 130~140 km/h, it gets down down at the RPM, and the engine cannot work to get you acelerating to the speeds you could need to overpass other cars...

So, Hope your comments to what to spect in the all new 6speed transmision, if is only for fuel economy porpuses or can it solve the way it put 320hp!!!!!!!! onto the wheels......

In my opinion, there is no comparison between the 4L60e and the 6L80e as the six speed is better in almost every way. The only negative IMO is the more frequent shifting of the six speed. Plus the six speed should be more reliable. two overdrives for highway and a low gear that pulls out of the hole like nobody's business......

It's been a while since I have driven a truck with the 6L80E, and I wasn't really a fan at the time when I did. The main reason for this was the transmission couldn't seem to decide what gear it wanted to be in while cruising, and it was noticeably jerking the vehicle a bit as it shifted. Granted this was early on and I know GM has issued new TCM calibrations since then designed to fix those issues, but it made me leery of them. I'll be interested to see how they are the next time I get to drive a newer 6-speed equipped truck.

I hate the constant shifting of the 6, and slow double downshifting, but over all i do like the 6 speed better. And once i work up the curage to tune it ill smooth out those problems... i just hate to see my 4.5 year 93k mile warrenty go out the window

I hope, it result in good to our silverados.... beacuse I ever wanted to GM drive the power like toyotas (southamerica) do. For example, here landcruiser 200 8cyl 4.7 and 4runner, fortuner, hilux, all 6cyl, drive i don't know why better the POWER.... And We do have 5.3L 315hp, and a single cab... Why do we have to think to pass a yota 6cyl? of course our silverado can do, but, believe me, it's not easy, and very hard of both are running in HIGH..

I really think the big problem, is not the engine... i think the problem is the trans, or the diff....

thank you

Wierd my 2010 shifts great in my opinion. Much better than the 4 speed in my 08 Tahoe.

Its suppose to shift more....more closer gears = more shifting. I remember people complaining about the 6L90 in the 2500's saying that they shifted too much, that is the point of having a more gears, closer ratio's that hold the engine in the power band.

As far as the original question, its a much better transmission than the 4L60 period.

And did GM made the same configuration for the gears as in US?

here are the gears ratios as images..

I noticed that our rear diff is 3.73 for the single cab (wich come with the 4speed) and the rear diff of the crew cab is 3.42!!! is the same differential ratios on US SIlverados?
