Who Makes The Largest Oil Filter?

For the 6.2L, the PureOne oil filter is tiny! And we all know that the small oil filters fitted to engines these days run with quite a high back pressure, and the bypass valve trips at about 3500rpm. That means that your oil is not being filtered when the engine is spinning faster than 3500rpm. As the oil filter does its job and starts to clog up, that rpm value can be lower.

If you increase the size of the filter, this will raise the rpm at which the bypass valve will switch. With a bigger filter and lower back pressure, for the same rpm less engine power will be lost in the filter. Bigger filter means better filtering and more power at low to mid revs. So is there a bigger filter, my girlsfriend VW Beetle uses are larger filter!

But if the filter is not designed for that engine...than you could be doing more harm than good.

and for the amount of time you spend above 3500 rpm....I dont think you have to worry about no filtration for what...about 30min a year.

From GM

AC Delco introduces the next generation of Duraguard® oil filters. This advanced filter technology allows the filter to function better while being lighter and more easily recycled. The oil filter redesign will be a rolling change with no price impact. An improved nylon core provides more open area in the core, yielding more filtering area for improved flow in a smaller canister, while maintaining the same capacity as the larger canister. Increased efficiency, higher collapse strength, and higher burst strength are the result of a roll seam design. The redesigned concave base plate allows for the accommodation of the combination relief and anti-drain back valve, while incorporating a raised threaded flange. Four new filter sizes cover the redesigned part numbers.

The by-pass valve in GM truck engines is in the engine, not in the filter. Although some of the new AC Delco E core filters have an anti drain back that also functions as a by pass valve.

And in the end...if your not going to keep the truck past 100K...who the hell cares....I haven't seen too many LS series engines fail before 200K. I even heard one make it past 100K without ever changing the oil...just dump in a new quart whenever it got low.

Second question is how many quarts of oil does the Denali 6.2 hold???? I cannot find this anywhere!

It should be in your service manual/owners manual

Ok, it is 6qts

PS, i plan on having the truck for over 100,000 miles

Then you need to use the filter that GM tested for many thousands of miles and designed for your truck instead of something that wasn't and may not work as well.

Purlator PureOne filters, K&N, and Mobil 1 oil filters all have the anti-drain valves. Is there something special about GM's factory oil filter??

The Pure One, K&N, and Mobil filters are all good choices in place of the factory Delco filter. I've bounced back and forth between the K&N and Mobil 1 filter on my 99 for 215,000 miles and I believe the filters have never been a problem.

No, Ac Delco, K&N and Mobil 1 are all made by the same company, Champion Labs. Pure one is made by Purolator who is owned by Bosch. Any of those are good, just change them regularly.

AC Delco filters @ 94% efficiency at 10 microns.

Edit. I called AC delco and they said the size was 10 microns thats for a PF46 and PF48

AMSOIL EAO filters are 98.7% efficiency at 15 microns
