Self Misdiagnoses

so I've read more than once that people have misdiagnosed their vehicle while asking for a solution here ,and I think holy crap that could have paid for a diagnoses at a garage !.

 

so what I would like to do is find out what you all(techs included ) think of this common purging of the wallet at an attempt to fix their car/truck.

 

 

also either people that cannot fix their veh at all or want a diag to take to a garage,I can never tell,and giving a diag to a service writer is never a good idea IMHO

 

your thoughts ,something to yak about anyways

I think your right...blindly pulling things you think may be wrong could end up being really expensive. A diagnosis at a good shop may have cost half as much.

 

The ones I really like is when people say the CEL is on...must be an O2 sensor....like that's the only sensor in the vehicle... And than they go replace 1-4 of them and the light stays on...I have seen guys replace them again thinking that the ones they bought were defective...it turned out this guy had a CEL on for his Evap system...we removed his gas cap and put it back on and all was fine.

this is what I'd like to see ,some discussion,ty Aiden,when I see someone with good intentions gives bad advice on what may be wrong with someone elses veh and the guy says thanks makes me nuts,"cause I know and maybe to late ,

 

i wish i had access to GM service info still but I have left the dealer life THANK CHRIST for that and this new job .

 

and how to get a veh complaint to be heard/felt/seen by a dealer needs to be said again if anyone wants that rant from me lol

 

also what the corner garage knows and how many yrs they are behind is another conversation
