Changing Leveling Kits---whats Involved?

Recommended Posts

When i bought my 07 i was excited about lifting the front because the gmt900 is a coil over set up and i thought it was a little improvement over the torsion spring set up. I bought the skyjacker 2" spacer kit you install on top of the spring and have to swap sides and cut off the OEM studs. I like the idea of the Bilstiens and from what i have heard you can adjust ride heighth with a snap ring. My questin is what would i have to do to put the Bilseins in now and is it possible with my stud cut,etc.....

I too am curious about this mod. I have not done anything to the height of my truck as of yet, but like the idea of leveling it. Is it ok just to do the front shocks only with the Bilstein set up. Is an alignment necessary after installing these as well. Didn't mean to threadjack but was trying to add to your discussion.

Yes, I did that change on my 1500. The cut studs are not an issue, you just have to use shorter nuts.

The Bilstein kit is ONLY adjustable with the coil spring off. Once you set the height, and assemble the strut/spring you are stuck with that setting unless you compress the spring and remove it.

That said, it is great kit. Ride is awesome!

Did the Bilstein install require an alignment.

Yes, you will need an alignment with any of them

Thanks so much Alaska. One more question. Where do you measure the height from front to back to see how much lift in the front you need. Is it the top of the wheel well?

Why are you switching setups? Did you not like the skyjacker kit?
