Well I have 96 GMC and with the recent snow and cold I have been using the 4 wheel drive. Well the other day the lights on the 4x4 selector panel did not light up when shifting to 4hi. I did a little test run and figured out the front dif is not engaging. I figure the front axle actuator has gone bad but wondered if that would also cause the lights to not work or if that was just by chance. Glad I happen on to this place. I already found the technical bulliten on how to replace it. just want to make sure that is the issue before I go through the trouble. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum. You can take a volt meter and check to see if the actuator is getting power. If it is, probably the actuator. If not I would check the switch.

Sounds fuse related to me....your actuator was probably cold and drew more current than it was supposed to and blew the fuse. Check that first.

most likely the actuator, I replace the one on my 94 2 years ago and it`s gone again, if getting 12volts to actuator then that`s the problem, your light won`t come on until diff locks in.
