Complete Motor Replacement Questions

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 Pontiac G6, nothing wrong with it except for needing a new motor. I am going to do the swap myself. The car has been sitting for about a year now. I have not had time to do the swap. So, is there anything I should do because the car has been sitting so long?

Should I put new transmission fluid in it, etc...?

Anything you would recommend? It has 55,000 miles on it and I plan to just swap out the motor with a new (used) motor.

Of course I will be putting new plugs and wires on it as well as other things like new belts.

Hopefully, with this daily driver I can keep the miles down on my Sierra.

Thanks for the help, Green Head

I would swap all fluids yes. Brake fluid power steering fluid trans fluid...everything...it all has been sitting and for sure the brake fluid has water in it.

The trans will need to be brought to a shop to do it though...you an only get whats in the pan out...and whats in the converter...just get it running and bring it for a flush...it wont hurt anything.

If these engines have a timing belt (I'm not sure)...change it before you put the new engine in, its much easier to do when its sitting on the shop floor.

If there seems to be oil leaks on the new engine...say valve cover leaks or pan leaks...do the gaskets while you have it out.
