I have 2 young girls....Can you tell me for sure or by experience if an Extended cab is big/roomy enough for 2 car seats? Or I really need to buy the crew cab?

I have a child seat in my ext cab 2007 new body and I can tell you that it will be somewhat tight if you put 2 in the back. I would suggest the crew cab.

The extended cab is fine. I have had adults ride in the back seat of my truck and no one complained. It's pretty roomy, not as big as the crew cab, but it's roomy enough for two young girls.

You have to decide if you want more rear cab space or be able to get a 6.6 ft bed. I flipped back and forth between getting a crew cab or extended cab. I decided on the extended cab with a 6.6 foot bed as oposed to a crew cab with 5.5 foot bed. I plan on hauling my Gsxr 1000 without having to have the tailgate down.

I've owned both, with three (growing) kids. Do yourself and your family a favor and get a Crew Cab. I barely notice the loss of bed, but *really* notice the difference inside. If you need a 6.5 ft bed for something specific, then you have no choice.

crew, if you don t need a 6ft bed why not have the room you can use on the inside? In car seats their feet will be all on your seatbacks. As they grow this get worse until they are out of the car seats. Yes the car seat will fit and it will work but if you have the choice why not more room?

get a crewcab, I upgraded to one with the arrival of our not so little one (2 months old) for the extra room with traveling with him and the 120lb dog

I would suggest you take one or both your kids with you to a dealership and take a car seat with you, any reputable dealer should allow you hook up your car seat and place your child inside; granted the salesman will probably push you towards more the expensive crew cab. Then you yourself should sit in the rear cab and see what leg room you have and dont have. Most likely if your wife is the front passenger, you'll probably be able to move her seat up a little more than the driver seat.

Crew cab no doubt. I had an extended cab before this truck and it was cramped with car seats. I ended up having to move close to the steering wheel so the kid in the back wouldn't be constantly kicking the back of the seat.

I see that you are over in cowtown hehe, I live in Carrollton; but work in Dallas. Lol when I had my motorcyle accident about 2 years ago by Texas Motor Speeday, the Roanoake EMS took me all the way to JPS hospital lol...

I have our little one's car seat in the middle of the back seat and she can actually kick the back of the center console lid.

Another thing you may want to consider :

For 2009, you could not get the 6-speed transmission in any bodystyle OTHER then the Crew Cab. All Extended & Regular cab 1500's are limited to the older 4-speed. There are other less significant equipment differences too, but that was a BIGGIE for me after doing lots of research about these trucks. However, that is not the case in 2010 - ANY 1500 bodystyle with the 5.3L or 6.2L engines can be ordered with the 6-speed.

Personally, I wasn't looking for the most power or towing capabilities possible in a truck, but instead I was looking for a competent performer with the best possible gas mileage and relaxed cruising at highway speeds. A 5.3L with the 6-spd just kept coming up as the best compromise for my needs. The smoothness and well-matched gearing of the 6-speed tranny is a big part of that equation, and I'm glad I got it.

Also, some people seem to really hate loading unruly kids and dogs in-&-out of an extended cab because of the suicide door configuration. The GMT900 rear doors open almost completely flat back against the body of the truck, which really helps. But that's still something to think about if you ever find yourself trying to maneuver the munchkins into their seats while stuck between two poorly-parked minivans at Walmart !!

GSXR1000 is correct though - the best thing to do is take the girls to a dealership and 'test drive' the seats in the different cabs. But please leave the Grape Juiceboxes at home !! :smash:

From what I could tell when shopping for a new truck, the extended cab on my 2002 has a little more room than the 2010 extended cabs. I was torn because I have a toolbox on my 2002 and I use the bed space, but I ended up buying a crew cab.

My 2010 will have the cargo management system and a couple of the small, side mount tool boxes. I've recently bought an enclosed trailer for my motorcycles and whatnot, so I'll still have decent use of the short box. The rear seat area of the crew will also give me a more secure and usable space for things.

Agree, you really need to look at a Crew Cab. I had both with my daughter and the extended cab got really cramped fast. Couple of things to consider.

1. Kids in carriers quickly grow up and will be hitting the back of the front seats in no time.

2. Don't just factor in the child / booster seats. I have found that kids come with a whole lot of other "stuff" which will quickly fill up the back of an extended cab.

3. Besides the size of the back seat, you may also want to consider the kids ability to get in and out of the vehicle. Once they can walk, you will quickly find that a step assist will really come in handy (try and get the dealer to include it with your vehicle).

At the end of the day, I think you will find the crew cab will best suit your needs.

If I had it to do over again I would definitely get the Crewcab. I came from a Toyota Tundra Double cab. According to edmunds the Double cab and the Chevy Extended cab have the same rear leg room. The only plus is the Tundra has regular 4 doors like a crew cab. When I bought my Silverado the only CC they had was a stripped down black one for a higher monthly payment.

At the time I didn't think anything of the suicide doors. When I read it was the same rear leg room as the Tundra I got the Ext cab.

Well, The Tundra cheats a little. lol. They cut the back of their front seats a special way so that you get a few inches more leg room but not in the Silverado. My 16 year old son is about 5'9 and I have to move all the seats up a few notches so he can have his knees not touch the back of the seat. THe smaller kids are no problem. So yeah, any adult and you will want to move the front seats up a little.

When I saw the back seat of the crew cab I didn't notice right away but thought they seemed pretty close to the front seats too but the difference is the crewcab seats are longer so you sit back further in them and don't have your knees sticking way out.

Also there have been many times where it was very difficult getting everyone in and out of the suicide doors. Especially when it's raining. You all can't just dash out the door and last one out closes it. Nope. I have to stand there and make sure they get out and that the back door is closed first and proper before I can close my door.

I love my truck but that's my only gripe. I really wish I wasn't so hasty to get out of that Tundra or I would have considered the Ext cab vs CC. Again, I just didn't know much about the two.

According to Edmunds. The rear leg room in the Ext Cab is 34.3 inches and the CC is 38.7 Almost another 4 1/2 inches of leg room.
