Cruise Control Turns Itself On 2009 Silverado

My dad recently purchased a used 2009 Silverado 1500 5.3L. The truck still has less than 3K miles. The truck will automatically turn on and set the cruise control at various speeds. This will happen often driving on short or long trips and at slow or high speeds. When he takes his foot off the gas to slow down, he will notice that the truck will hold speed and RPM and the cruise light is on and set. Sometimes he will first notice the cruise control light on the instrument cluster while at cruising speeds.

 

Any possibilities? The truck is under warranty, but we are just curious what might be going on before bringing it to a dealership.

 

And my dad is not accidentally turning on the cruise or setting it.

Interesting problem, since you mentioned he is positive that he is not accedently hitting any buttons, I have no idea. I have bumped the audio controls and turned my cruis off a few times, on NBS Suburban that I had. Never was all that happy with the new switchgear placement on the 900 seires steering wheels. if he is sure that is not the case he better take it in. Its going to probably be one of those things that is going to be tough to isolate or dupliccate on demand though.

Possibly an overly sensitive brake switch? Vibrations from normal driving activating it? Drive along behind him on a rough road see if the brake lights flicker.

My tow haul mode would come on by itself all the time, took it to the dealer they had to replace a moduel. They said it came from the factory not grounded, Also my manual gear selector did not work. May be the same problem......
