i recently bought a haynes repair manuel, in it, it states that the fuel filter is not in the tank, but the dealer told me it was...just curious also on what the life span is of fuel pumps with the filter inside the tank?

04+ filters are in the tank. some pumps can last over 125k some a hole lot less. big trick for long life is never run your truck below 1/4 tank a lot. fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel in the tank, less fuel more heat on the pump..

Check on the driver side of the vehicle underneath the door (near the hinges), on the inside of the frame. You should see it there. That is where it is on my 2003 sonoma. As for anything newer, I'm not sure.

i'm up to 101k as of today on the factory pump, no problem(knock on wood) always keep atleast 3 quarter to a half a tank...i just don't like the fact that the filter is suppose to have been service a looong time ago

It was supposed to be serviced on older trucks...03 and older....if you want to service the filter on an 04 and newer, you need to replace the fuel pump. It should say service fuel filter if applicable in the manual. Like the 4t40E and 4t45E transmissions in FWD cars...sealed for life....no service required.

Starting in 2004 GM moved the fuel filter to the tank, with the exception of the flex fuel and the 4.3 V6. In 2005 the flex fuel was also moved to the fuel tank. the 4.3 V6 stayed on the frame rail a bit longer.

This was done in conjunction with going to a returnless fuel system. the filter is designed to last the life of the pump and is not serviceable.
