I have a 2009 Silverado with the rims and tires from my old truck and it is time for new tires. i have 285/55/R20 BFG all terrains on my truck now and it doesn't come close to rubbing... ha i've tried. Let me know what you think about bigger tires.

They will fit, but you have to make sure they come with a good cutting knife and possibly a sawzall and hammer. Seriously though they will rub badly and will require some cutting.

Here is a tire size calculator http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp . The difference in diameter is .86 inches.

Can you clear a half inch in all directions in all wheel positions?

On my stock height SD I found that 33.25" outer diameter tires would rub the back of the wheel well at close to full lock. I was not willing to cut out the middle of the back of the wheel well.

i have an 09 sierra with the rough country leveling kit and 305/50/20 copper ltz's and they SLIGHTLY rub when all the way over....your 55's will probably give it a good rub, go down to the 50's

the biggest mistake people make is just focusing on the diameter..... hey its only an inch taller and i have about 1/2 inch of clearance now when i turn my wheel, so it will fit right? ....not exactly.

first of all that 1/2 inch of clearance dissappears really quick when you go over a little bump or drive into an incline (like a driveway).

second of all, the width of the tire eats away at the clearance as well. those 305s are about an inch wider than 285s (20mm to be exact). so with the wheel turned you need to measure for an extra 1/2" of width AND an extra 1/2" in diameter.... that gap just got a LOT smaller, and this doesnt even take into account the first point above.

Goodluck if you try that. I have the same size tire and the tire guy at the shop said if I would have went any bigger I would have had to trim. I have a leveling kit and 3" body lift. I think if you get those tires you better buy a saw with it

Thanks for the advice. The Bfg 285/55/20's i have now are 32.5 inches by 11.7 inches and Nitto has a 305/50/20 that is 32.09 by 12.2. So i'm hoping that since they are a half an inch shorter and a half an inch wider they will fit.

tmills35 please post up pics of your current set up with the 285/55's.

Also, another mistake tons of people do is they only use the conversion calculator and call it a day. Take a look at the Manufacturer Web stie of the Tires you are looking for. Look up their specs. I can almost guarantee they are diffent than the conversion calculator #'s. Each Manufacturer 305, 295, 285 or what ever tire will most likely never mesure the same.

I got the tires installed and they barely rub. the only time they have rubed was when i was trying to make them rub when they were first put on. I ended up getting 305/50/20 terra grapplers they are just as tall as my old tires but they are wider. i will post some pictures as soon as it stops raining here and i can get my truck clean. i attached a picture of the old 285/55/20 tires

Looks nice man. Please post up some more pics of your new setup. How much do the wheels and tires stick out from the wheelwell?
