Trailer Connector

I have a 2003 2500 Suburban and I got rear ended last weekend and the only damage to the truck was the trailer connector. Yes I could take it to the body shop and have it repaired under insurance but that would require taking the truck in and leaving it for a couple of days for what is essentially a 20 minutes fix. I can cut the bracket off and weld on a new one in a matter of minutes. Little black paint and good as new and I can get reimbursed for the part.

so the problem. I can't seem to find the part number for the bracket or the connector anywhere on line.

Does anyone know where I can find the part number for these items? Should be pretty common but I can't seem to locate them.

Thanks, Rob.

Here is the connector;

Here is what I did with my trailer connector. Just used a hole saw from home depot. The metal is thin and easy to cut. Here's a link to that connector;

That looks good. Does the factory wiring connect to that adapter? I mean can I unplug the factory unit that is damaged and plug it directly into that unit?

Yes you can. Both connectors have the same socket as the factory plug, meaning you can simply unplug the harness from you damaged plug and plug it into either of the plugs I listed. I have order from this outfit several times as have been satisfied. Also I went into the garage and it's a 2 inch rigid bi-metal hole saw that I used to cut a hole in the bumper. I also bought a stainless steel nut and bolt kit from the depot to bolt the plug to the bumper.

This is a worth while mod, I hate how the connector hangs under the hitch. Is it possible to just move the oem one to the bumper? I am thinking it comes apart, does anyone know for sure? If it does it would be possible to take it off the bracket, remount it to the bumper, then remove the bracket.

You could depending on how hand you are. You have to cut a hole for the connector and then cut the slot outside the hole the connector locks in.

My truck didn't have the factory hitch and wiring. I installed a Reese Towpower hitch, and installed wiring that connected to the factory harness. It provides both 7 pin and 4 pin connections and mounted right to the factory spot. Looks nice!

I never knew ANY of the GMT900s came without a receiver on them. Interesting.

Just take a lot at a basic work truck with no options. Towing package with the frame receiver has always been an option on all GM trucks. Sometimes they package them together with the 5.3 lter engine.

I think only some full size SUVs, like Tahoe and Suburban come standard with the frame mounted receiver now.
