my dog(2 year old black lab/golden retreiver) went under for a major surgery the other day, we took her in to get fixed and it turned out she had 3 lumps on her leg. they turned out to be cancer  .....she has about 25 stitches down her leg, its a big slice. just wonderin if anybody has had this happen to their dog, and what results come out of it. doc said they are sendin the tumor out to Toronto to find out what type of cancer it is. hopefully she is okay...just wanna know if this has happened to anybody elses dog and what outcome? i hope she doesnt have the type that spreads real fast...shes my best friend.

Sorry to hear that. Hope all turns out well. When I was younger my parents dog had a tumor in his jaw. They actually removed part of his jaw and he lived a few more yrs and his passing wasnt related to cancer just old age. I dont know what I would do without mine. He is 2-1/2 yrs old and is great with our little one. They are buddies.

I like the fishing picture. I have to keep mine on a leash when we go. he sits and when he sees the bobber go under he knows a fish is on the way. He will lick the fish when you get it to shore. This past summer my dad had one on the line and the sharp part of the fin got him and pissed him off, he tried to eat the next fish haha

I ve had several Goldens and still do. It s more common in Labs and Goldens . Sometimes they are only fatty cysts and we stopped removing them from our Goldens cause they are harmless, But I guess if your dogs is cancer they should come out. I wish you the best luck at this tough time.

Hey man, sorry to hear this. Give me a little more info. What did the masses look like? (size, shape, color) There are quite a few possibilities on types of masses (cancerous and noncancerous). Did your veterinarian feel like was able to get all of them with adequate margins?

Here is the good news. You have a young and I assuming otherwise healthy lab. Malignant cancer would be very unusual in a dog her age (not impossible though, I do see it). The 2 most common masses I will find on a young dogs legs are Histiocytomas and Mast Cell tumors. Histiocytomas are benign and removal is curative. Mast cells can vary greatly from no big deal to really big deal. As mentioned by someone else fatty tumors (lipomas) are very common also, but I don't suspect you vet would put you through any real concern if he suspected a lipoma. Those are very easy to diagnose.

I will be thinking about you, keep us informed and please don't hesitate to pm me if you have any other questions.

hey man, from what i gather their was 3 tumors, they were all close together. he said they were malignant for that reason, im guessing they were mast cell tumors. he also said it was very inflamed around the tumors. its weird cuz the bumps did not bother her at all. we feel really stupid for not bringing her in sooner, she never looked like she was in pain ever. always happy. we are waitin for the results from a place in toronto that examines tumors to find out which type of cancer it is. and hopefully they got it all and it didnt spread anywhere else. the vet said the cells were very aggresive tho....i hope she is okay.

and to ryan i also have a 6 month old too. this pic is when she was pretty much newborn tho. riley is awesome with my daughter too. wicked dog
