Considering Another Truck...

Hey guys just thought I'd throw up a post and get some opinions. My wife and I have been married almost a year now and now that the new house is done and we only drive 5 miles to work everyday we are considering getting rid of the Pontiac Pursuit and buying another truck. The car has been really good but we find ourselves wanting a truck in addition to the '08 we already have. We live out in the stix and both drive a lot of gravel roads that are generally pretty rough. The car seems to be holding up just fine, but with kids on the way I would feel more comfortable if she had a 4wd. With Saskatchewan winters generally being long and snowy and cold a truck is a definate plus! I found this truck this morning and am definatley considering it. Since it's not new anymore I wouldn't feel bad about using her a little harder than I would the 08! In addition to what's in the ad I got this info from the seller: it's not a total loss vehicle but it rearended another truck and both fenders, the hood, bumper, grill, etc were replaced. It has a 5.3 and 4.10 rear. It is definatly a sharp truck! Yay or nay?

Not sure if I would by a vehicle that was in an accident for my main transportation. The price sounds a little high but I have not checked to see what that year model is going for. What is all on the Special Edition? Is it fully loaded?

Nay. Stay away from a truck that has been in a major accident. A minor fender bender is one thing, (even if both fenders were dinged) but anything more like frame work and such, I tend to avoid. Otherwise that's a sweet truck!

I have that exact same truck....same color and everything. I just bought it this fall, and i love the thing! The whole accident thing if it was done right, you have no worries....i say yay!

I like it,I would take off the cheap looking chrome door handles though.

Oh...and the only thing that makes it a "special edition"..is the "special edition" emblems!! other than that theres nothing "special" about it. :puke:

I'd drive it, have it inspected. If it all checks out I'd say yay.

That is a sharp looking truck (pretty much any car that clean on snow looks sharp though).

Looks straight from the 3 pictures... lol

Do your due diligence, make sure you are not over-paying as the history kills the value of it.

Well I went and took it for a drive last night and all you guys were right. I am not as hesitant as I used to be about vehicles that have been in accidents since we have a bodyshop right beside where I work that provides us with trucks (for construction) and most of them have had accidents or are even previous total loss vehicles that have been fixed. But this truck was NOT done right lol. I guess the shiny paint had me thinking it was ok. From the outside it looked great but the suspension, frame etc were not fixed right or at least to my standard. It seemed to be oversteering and had vibration issues. But that's why you don't buy without driving i guess! I shall keep looking thanks for the input guys!

i'd say no, the truck could have major underling issues from the accident, gmt-800s are decent priced now a days, i almost got an 03 z71 ECSB for 7k

I wouldn't buy a truck that took that much of a hit to the front. If this truck had been rear-ended or just got a minor bump in front, that would be no big deal... but this sounds a bit more involved.

Another thing to consider: would your wife be driving this truck, or the '08? I would be a bit less concerned about her being in the newer truck, but I wouldn't be comfortable with her in an older one if I were in your shoes.

My rule of thumb when it comes to the women I care about in my life is that the vehicles I put them in had better be 110% reliable. If something goes bust on me when I'm out and about I can deal with it, but I'm not putting them in that position.

You mirrored my thoughts exactly V8GMTGuy. The wife would drive the new one and I would drive the older one. And if we went somewhere together we would always take the new one. This other truck is more for me to drive back and forth to work on the gravel and for my various hunting/outdoor excursions, etc.

UPDATE:

Ok found this one now: http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-SU...AdIdZ187376586#

It's unfortunately another 4.8 but that's not the end of the world. If i've learned anything from buying the 2008 it's not to discount the 4.8 trucks before you drive them. This looks like a nice truck. Looks clean and it has a clean VIN. I was just curious as to what a truck like this might have for a rearend? Would it be 3.73s? I realize it's hard to figure out without the VIN but I lost the paper I wrote it on and won't be going back to look at it for a couple of days. Just curious what rearend might be in this truck! And before anyone says the price is too high the price is actually not bad for this area. Up here in Saskatchewan we generally get screwed on the prices of used trucks compared to other parts of Canada and especially when you compare to the U.S. but the price is actually good for here, especially for the KM's on the truck.
