scott_8222 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 When should the spark plugs be changed in a 2000 Silverado 1500 5.3? I have had the truck for 2 years and concerned that this might need to be done. Should wires be done at the same time?
Silverado4x4 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 How many miles do you have on the truck? Most factory plugs are good for 100,000 miles before changing them out.

How many miles...if they have been in there since 2000 they need changing plus they are going to be hard to get out and you might as well plan on wires as they will be stuck to the plugs and you will destroy them getting them off. Just my opinion..
scott_8222 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 The truck has 156000km on it (roughly 96200 miles)
Prokopchuk_9 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 for how much it costs, change them. use AC Delco plugs..nothing else. may as well change wires while your at it also. its cheap insurance, half the time when you pull the wires off they get screwed up anyways.
scott_8222 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Cool thanks alot. Chevyboy 86 did you get your linex liner done in alberta?
jblakeney Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 AC Delco 41-110 - 7.59x8=60.72 Belden 700-399 (Delphi Coils) Round Body - 51.99 Belden 700-989 (Mitsubishi Coils) Square Body - 47.49 That is straight up walk-in at my stores so 112.71 or 108.21 plus "Uncle Sams" percentage. Oh yeah, don't forget the never-seas on the threads.... Be prepared for #8 its easier from the bottom (providing you can stand up under the truck). Or most 5/8 plug socket have a external hex, so stack an extra socket on the plug socket to break it loose and tighten it back up. Jbo
Matt09SLT Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 In my wife's 02 tahoe; I run ngk tr55's. They are copper plugs; I change them every year or so for about $15-$17 total. I like to keep fresh plugs in there and they are easy to change (~1hr). I'll probably change the 09 over to copper also.
etex211 Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Here is a comment about the mechanical efficiency of late model GM vehicles.... My company car is a 2005 Chevy Venture Van. It has 205,000 miles. It still has the original spark plugs. In fact, the engine on this van has never been touched, except for regular oil changes. This van still runs fine and still gets 20 miles per gallon loaded full of cargo. Sadly, this van is scheduled for replacement in the fourth quarter of this year. I will probably get stuck with a Dodge Caravan next. I've had lots of company cars over the years, but this Venture van is the best one I've ever had, hands down.
nickvrebel Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 .....plus "Uncle Sams" percentage. would you please STOP saying that. "Uncle Sam" doesn't get a PENNY of sales tax. Learn how that damn system works like a good American and you would know this. There is NO National Sales Tax, even though certain people in Congress would like one. Sales tax is 100% State and Local Government imposed.
