More Extremely Interesting Numbers On Unintended Acceleration:

This truly is staggering...and FURTHER proof that our US media turned a non-issue into an issue (Toyota):

Another interesting tidbit is that FIFTY THREE PERCENT (53%) of Toyota UA complaints were filed AFTER the floor mat advisory was issued.

Oh...and...uh....GO GM!

I bet someone could easily dig up plenty of charts where Japanese car companies had the same or worse stats on some problem than the big 3 back in the 90s and yet the US media raped the big 3.

So screw Toyota, glad they are getting a taste of what GM has always gotten.

It's about time these kind of stats are coming out.

What I find really interesting is that there have been more complaints per 100,000 sold for Lexus than for Toyota itself. Maybe what this is indicating is that the more electronic gadgets and goodies Toyota puts on a car, the worse their ability to engineer it properly?

Less sales makes the ratio go up...

I don't care. It's Toyota's turn to fry.

Why do you say that? I am curious as to why you think Toyota should "fry"?

BTW...that red GMC in your sig...is that the color "Fire Red'? I say a 1500 at the dealer today with that color and it looked fantastic...

Toyota has always had problems like every other car company out there, yet the US media and most of this coutry's sheep, errr citizens, believed that Japanse instantly means super high quality when it means no such thing, just slightly better (maybe) than Chinese quality. Toyota could do no wrong. On the other hand, the Big 3 would get hammered for the stupidest crap. So now people have woken up and realized that Toyota isn't infallible. So time to fry. The US media can finally give them a little taste of what they've always given the Big 3. Then people will see that building a couple of plants in the US and putting a couple bolts into a pretty much completed vehicle does not mean Made in the USA.

For what its worth, the sticker says 80% U.S. and Canada and 20% Japan. Girlfriend just bought a 2010 Camry Saturday. Assembled here in KY at the Georgetown plant.

So Toyota should fry because back when the Detroit three forgot how to make cars and focused on SUVs, they (along with Honda) hung back in the weeds and just soldiered on building reliable, quality automobiles?

Come on...you can blame the big 3s past and recent ineptness to build a quality, reliable sedan that sells well on Toyota/Honda. Now, GM at least, has figured out how to build a quality sedan (Malibu/Lacrosse) but the sales...of the Malibu are crushed by the Accord and Camry...still.

You can't blame Toyota for the reputation that have earned from the people in America and the reporting by our media.

Ya, I never even blamed Toyota for the Big 3 for screwing up. Reread what I said. Toyota made a couple of reliable cars back in the day, then decided "screw that, let's cut corners and make more money" which has led to plenty of problems but people still think that Toyota makes a really quality vehicle even though it isn't true. THAT is why Toyota needs to fry in the US media and elsewhere.

When Toyota does everything to not have a recall on a recall worthy item just to be able to tell everyone they make such high quality stuff, that's bull. But if you want to keep your head in the sand about what's really going on, be my guest. The fact is, Toyota hasn't made a vehicle that lives up to their initial quality in a long time but people have this crazy perception that they do still have that quality. Again, that is the reason for the frying. So look at what's going on in the real world before defending Toyota.

Name one Toyota model that has been plagued with issues outside of the VERY minor unintended acceleration (non) issue. I am by no means a Toyota cheerleader (just a realist), and I can't think of any model that's not been a reliable, quality piece. Would I ever buy one? Hell no...but for a bland appliance, they do their job very well day in and day out.

Sounds like you've been dipping into the Kool-Aid a bit.

Do some research.....ever heard of the oil sludge problem that Toyota denied for nearly a decade? How about the rusty Taco frames?

Oh, and shall we discuss the dozens of issues with Toyota's 3rd failed attempt at building a full-sized pick-up truck that even made the leader of Toyota blush (he admitted being "embarrassed" by the new Tundra back in 07). Maybe you should go trade in that nice Silvy for that superior truck that is changing everything.

Not true. Defects make the ratio go up, Mr. Math. GM and the other domestics got what they deserved, and now Yota is getting a well earned reaming, and the media still slants their way. And 53 deaths (so far) is not a minor thing in my book....

And something like 70% profits going back to JAPAN not USA. And why did you let your girlfriend buy such an ugly car!? I'd dump mine if she ever did that!

I think its a sharp car myself. Better than the POS Nissan sentra she had before.
